    Packaging Illustrator Files

    • Adobe introduced the package functionality for Illustrator with the release of Creative Suite 6.
    • To get around the need for this much-appreciated upgrade, we had to manually duplicate our Illustrator files and collect all of the relevant pictures and fonts into one convenient location before.
    • What a plethora of potential for blunders!
    • It was certain that a typeface or a picture (or two) would be missing from the folder that you sent off to the print vendor unless you were really attentive.
    • It is not possible to just email the Illustrator file to whoever requires it.
    • You must submit the Illustrator document, as well as any and all of the assets that were utilized in the creation of the document.

If this is not done, the recipient will be unable to do much more than open the Illustrator document.

    Preflight Checks

    • Illustrator, in contrast to InDesign, does not include a Preflight Panel.
    • As a result, you must manually examine the file and make any necessary corrections before packing it.
    • The Package tool consolidates all of the files into a single folder, including the Illustrator file, connected graphics, fonts, and a report summary summary.
    • Sending that folder to whoever needs it will allow them to see, modify, and/or print the Illustrator file that was created.
    Here’s a preflight checklist:
    • LINKS: There are instances when pictures are not present.
    • This may occur as a result of (1) the picture being transferred to a different folder or (2) the image being pasted into the Illustrator file rather than placed.
    • In order to correct: (a) Navigate to the Links Panel.
    • Immediately underneath the image with the missing link will be an encircled question mark enclosed within a caution triangle.
    • Using that image as a selection, select the Relink button located near bottom of the panel.
    • Navigate to the folder in which the image is stored and choose it from there.

The picture has been re-linked as a result.(a) Insert the picture into the Illustrator file by selecting File > Place or by pressing CMMD-D / CNTRL-D.Make any necessary adjustments to the image’s size and location, then remove the previous image.

Please keep in mind that while adding (importing) pictures in Illustrator, you have the choice of linking the images or not linking the images. It is not necessary to choose ″Link″ in order for the picture to be embedded within the Illustrator project and not gathered into the packed folder. If the ″Link″ option is chosen, the picture will be gathered and placed in the packed directory.

    • Embedding pictures is the most convenient approach to keep imported photos up to date without having to bother about their source files. As soon as you embed an image into a document, Illustrator creates a pixel-by-pixel replica of the picture in exactly the same quality as the image has been imported and scaled. The Illustrator files will be bigger, but they will be totally manageable in the majority of circumstances. By selecting Options and unchecking ″Link″ in Illustrator’s Place dialog box, you may prevent a file from being automatically embedded when it is imported. An picture that has previously been linked can be incorporated by selecting that option from the Links panel drop-down menu. If you make modifications to a picture later on, you may update it by selecting it in the Links Panel and selecting ″Relink.″ from the drop-down menu. It is possible to incorporate it once again after relinking. Adobe Support Forum member Bill Silbert says MODE OF COLOR: For print items, the color space should be in the CMYK color space. It’s crucial to check with printer providers to see if they accept RGB, and it’s always a good idea to ask. To correct the Document Color Mode, follow these steps: Ensure the following settings are present in the Illustrator file to ensure they meet the requirements: Document Color Mode > CMYK Color may be found under File > Document Color Mode. To Correct the Color Mode of a Placed Image: The color mode of the Illustrator document overrides the color mode of any placed images that do not have embedded color profiles. For your own safety (particularly when you aren’t sure whether or not the color profile is integrated), you should replace the RGB photos with CMYK ones, as described in this method: The RGB image should be copied and renamed ″-cmyk″ at the end of the original name, as shown in (a) (FileName-cmyk.tif). Open the CMYK copy in Photoshop and switch to the CMYK color mode (Image > Mode > CMYK color) to see the results. Save the file on your computer. (b) Return to the Illustrator file where you started. The picture should be selected and relinked with the CMYK file in the Links Panel, as seen below.
    • RESOLUTION: The image print resolution is less than the recommended 300 pixels per inch (ppi). In order to provide high-quality results, printers typically allow a 10-20 percent variation above and below 300 pixels per inch (ppi). Increasing the resolution of a low-resolution image will not address the problem
    • instead, it will result in a poor quality image. How to Fix: It is necessary to substitute a high-resolution image for the low-resolution one.
    • FORMATS: Image formats are not suitable for printing. The following formats are acceptable: TIFF, EPS, PDF, and JPG (as long as they are high-resolution images). When printing, avoid using PNG, GIF, or low-resolution JPG files (use only for web). Open the PNG (or GIF or JPG) file in Photoshop to make the correction. Save the file as a TIFF, EPS, or PDF by selecting File > Save As. from the menu bar. Find the file format options at the bottom of the Save As box by clicking on the Save As button. Make certain that the new suffix is included in the file name.
    • FONTS: TrueType fonts are typically not suitable for printing because of their size and shape. Again, it’s a good idea to inquire about the typefaces with the printing seller. Overall, it is preferable to use OpenType fonts (whose icon is an oblique ″O″) or Postscript fonts (whose emblem is a lower-case ″a″). TrueType (icon = ″TT″) fonts are intended for use on the web, however certain manufacturers will be able to print with them in certain circumstances. To resolve the issue, replace the TrueType fonts with OpenType and/or Postscript fonts as appropriate. Find Font may be found by going to the Type menu and scrolling down to Find Font (Type > Find Font). The problematic font(s) should be selected in the top panel, and then replaced with the new font(s) in the ″Replace With″ area at the bottom.

    Packaging Feature

    • It will be straightforward to package the Illustrator file once you have done with the pre-flight checklist. Select File > Package from the menu bar. The location and folder name are as follows: (a) Select the folder icon and go to the location where the packed folder will be stored. (1) The default name of the folder will comprise the title of the Illustrator document, with the word ″Folder″ appended at the end. (2) You have the option of keeping or changing your name.
    • Choose from the following options: (a) Copy Links – This function collects all of the photos and places them in a bundled folder. Collect links in a separate folder – This option collects all of the photos into a sub-folder that has been established. The command ″Relink linked files to document″ alters the links to the Illustrator document included within the bundled folder. (b) Copy Fonts Used in Document — Copies all of the typefaces that were used in the document, but not necessarily the whole family of fonts. A summary report of all the pictures, typefaces, and colors, as well as any missing assets is generated by clicking on the Create Report button.
    • You’ll receive a warning regarding the typefaces after clicking the Package button. Simply click OK, and a pop-up window will open alerting you to any missing connections that may have occurred. To correct the broken links, click OK or View Report.
    • Locate and open the packed folder that was created. Check to see that all of the transferred files are still present. If your photos and graphics are not contained within a Links folder, it is likely that your assets were incorporated in the website. Fonts will be contained within a Fonts folder
    • compress the Fonts folder. Compress by selecting Compress from the context menu. Alternatively, use DropStuff (or a similar program).

How to Save Your Adobe Illustrator Files for the Web

    • When I wanted to boost the amount of visitors to my blog, I was given the recommendation to start giving freebies on my website, which I followed.
    • Despite the fact that I had attempted this previously, WordPress, as well as many other websites, do not permit the uploading of Illustrator files to the internet.
    • For those of you who follow my blog, you are undoubtedly already aware of the conclusion to this tale.
    • After some trial and error, I was able to successfully upload the Illustrator files and have been posting free graphics to my blog every Friday since then.
    • This guide will walk you through the steps I took to save your files in Adobe Illustrator and then upload them to the web in the first place.
    • Let’s get this party started!

Step 1: Save your Illustrator file to your computer. So I have three graphics that I’d want to keep for use on the internet. It is necessary to make a decision throughout this procedure as to whether or not you want your readers to have access to the original file of your graphics so that they may alter the file, or whether or not you want your graphics to be modified.

My standard practice is to include the original file so that if a reader want to include my graphics into a pattern or logo design, they may continue to work with vector graphics.Following completion of your graphics, the first thing you should do is open the file menu and select ″Save As.″ Change the name of your file to something descriptive of the visuals you’ve created.Because the images were created for a New York pattern that I am currently working on, I chose to name this piece New York.

It’s easier for me to find graphics on my desktop when I need to submit them since they are saved on my computer’s hard drive. You’ll also need to convert the file’s format to an.eps file and then hit the save button. This enables anyone who does not have Illustrator but does have another design program that is compatible with your file to open it.Step 2: Save each file on its own computer If you save each graphic separately, your readers who do not have design software will be able to make use of the designs.Make a single graphic at a time and set it on your artboard to keep things organized.Select File > Export > Save for Web from the drop-down menu.

    • You’ll note that there is a preset portion to the right of your photo, as seen below.
    • Your file is most likely a JPG file, however you would want to convert it to a PNG-24 file instead.
    • If you look beneath PNG-24, you will discover that there is an option to make your background translucent.
    • This is a useful feature.
    • Make certain that the transparency checkbox is checked.
    • When you click Save, another box will appear.
    • Save the file with the precise name of the graphic (for example, Pretzel) that you are storing so that it may be readily discovered when someone downloads your graphics and saves it to their desktop (for example, Pretzel).
    • Do this with all of your graphics, making sure that only one graphic is displayed on the artboard at a time when you save each graphic one at a time.
    • Step 3: Convert files to zip archives and rename the resulting archives.
    • Go to your desktop and pick all of the files that you want to delete.
    • Right-click the files and select ″Compress″ from the drop-down menu.
    • This will generate a zip file that contains all of your files.

In order to alter the name of your zip file, first ensure that your zip file is chosen and then click on Archive. At the bottom of your zip file, place a.zip extension. This should give you the ability to make changes to your title.Fill in the blanks with anything that explains the visuals you’re giving and then click the ″Exit″ button on your zip file.Step 4: Upload the Zip File to Your Website Now that you’ve finished preparing your file for the web, you may upload it to your website directly. Each website will be unique, but because I use WordPress, that is the platform on which I will be instructing you.

    1. Fortunately, WordPress allows you to quickly drag and drop your file into a post, which is exactly what we will be doing in this case.
    2. Using your mouse, drag your file into the body of your post to publish it.
    3. Simply include a photo in your article so that your viewers are aware of the visuals that are present, then save your post and you’re done.

How to Save Adobe Illustrator Files in Other Formats: JPEG, PNG, SVG, and More

    • By default, Adobe Illustrator stores files in the AI format, which stands for Adobe Illustrator Object Interface.
    • The use of this feature is particularly advantageous while working on projects or when preserving a master copy of your work.
    • The final work, on the other hand, will need to be saved in a separate format if it is to be printed or shared, posted online, or imported into other applications.
    • Examples of such formats include JPEG, PNG, and SVG.
    • The next section will teach you how to save Adobe Illustrator (AI) files in a variety of formats, such as JPEG, PNG and SVG.

    Saving Artboards in Adobe Illustrator

    • To understand how Adobe Illustrator manages artboards and how to save them as independent files, it’s necessary to understand how the program saves files in certain formats before moving on. Within an Illustrator file, artboards act as though they were separate pages. You have the option of combining them into a single graphic or saving them as individual photos. In most cases, when you save an Illustrator file, you’ll be prompted to choose how you wish to handle artboards. What you choose will have an impact on the appearance of your final, exported image. In the majority of circumstances, you will make your decision by selecting an option on the Export screen. What you should do is as follows: Check the Use Artboards option if you wish to save numerous artboards as distinct files instead of a single file. Then choose either All to save all of the artboards or a Range (for example, 2-4) to pick which artboards to preserve.
    • You should check the Use Artboards box if you have items that are outside of an artboard (for example, if they are overlapping the edge). This will guarantee that your final picture only has the content that is included within the artboard, and that the remainder is cropped out.
    • If all of your artwork is contained within one artboard, and you only have one of them, uncheck the Use Artboards checkbox and proceed as normal. This will result in an image that has been cropped to the boundaries of the things included inside it, with all white space eliminated from the picture. This is extremely useful for creating items with square or rectangular shapes.

How to Save an Illustrator File as a JPEG

    • A high quality JPEG file is the optimum format to use for creating an illustration, infographic, or anything else that will be printed (such as when designing a business card in Adobe Illustrator).
    • Ideally, you should develop your artwork at a size that is close to the final size that you intend to print it at.
    • Although Illustrator graphics may be scaled without affecting their quality, you’ll notice that the spacing between objects—and notably the kerning in text—needs to be tighter at bigger sizes than at lower sizes when using the program.
    • If you haven’t done so before, start by creating a new document and pasting your artwork into it.
    • Then modify it to your heart’s content.
    • You’re now ready to save your high-resolution JPEG image to your computer.
    1. Select File > Export > Export As from the menu bar. Fill up the blanks with a filename and the JPEG format setting.
    2. Choose how you wish to save your artboards, and then click Export to proceed.
    3. On the JPEG Options screen, you may adjust the color model if necessary and select a quality level.
    4. Set the output resolution in the Options section. Screen resolution (72dpi) will result in a file that is the same size as your original document and should be suitable for usage on the internet. Select High (300dpi) if you want a high-resolution picture. This will be sufficient for printing purposes.
    5. To save the file, click the Save button.

How to Save an Illustrator File as a PNG

When you need to save an image for usage on the web, such as a logo or icon, you should export your AI file as a PNG. This is especially true if the picture has a translucent backdrop. It is necessary to export your file at several sizes in order to accommodate both ordinary and high resolution display modes. This is something that can be done automatically.

    1. Select File > Export > Export for Screens from the menu bar.
    2. Select the Artboards tab from the drop-down menu. If your image has more than one artboard, choose the ones that you wish to output.
    3. Format should be set to PNG and Scale to 1x in the Formats section.
    4. To add a scale, click the Add Scale button. The settings for a second picture will be created as a result of this, so change the Scale option to reflect the new relative size. A factor of three, for example, will result in a picture that is three times the height and width of the original.
    5. If you require other sizes, please include them.
    6. To save your photographs, click on the Export Artboard button.

How to Save Adobe Illustrator Files as SVG

    • A better, more current method of exporting visuals for the web, such as icons and logos, is through the use of the SVG file format.
    • Short for Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), this markup language is really based on the XML standard.
    • As an alternative to saving the picture as a file that can be linked to from your web page, you may save the image as a piece of code that can be pasted straight into your HTML file.
    • After that, you may make changes to it using CSS.
    • The process of applying effects and animations to your photographs is really efficient….
    • There are further advantages, such as the fact that the images are lightweight and that they can be resized easily because they are vectors.

There is no need to export photographs in different sizes to accommodate different screen resolutions. There are a handful of different approaches to creating an SVG.Using Save As provides a bigger file that may be used for editing.

The Export option may be used to produce a final picture that can be used in your projects.

    1. Select File > Export > Export As from the menu bar.
    2. Select SVG as the output format and click Export.
    3. Set Stylistic to Internal CSS, which consolidates all of the styling information into a single block that can be readily modified using CSS.
    4. Select SVG as the font style to keep the text selectable. Outlines should only be used if you’re using a difficult-to-find custom typeface. Images should be left on Preserve.
    5. Make certain that Minify and Responsive are both checked to provide the best possible performance and compatibility.
    6. To view the code in a text editor, select Show Code from the drop-down menu. This may be copied and pasted into your HTML file as needed. Alternatively, click OK to save the picture as an SVG file.

If you’re working with an icon that’s in a raster format (such as JPEG or PNG), it’s simple to convert pictures to vector graphics in Adobe Illustrator before continuing.

How to Save Artboards as PDFs in Adobe Illustrator

The Save To option in Illustrator is the quickest and most straightforward method of saving an Illustrator work as a PDF. However, if you are utilizing many artboards, this will aggregate them together into a multi-page PDF document. To save artboards as individual PDF files, there’s a simple tip to remember:

    1. Select Export > Save for Screens from the menu bar.
    2. In the dialog box that appears, pick the Artboards tab and then select the artboards that you wish to keep.
    3. Set the Format to PDF in the right-hand column, and then click on Export Artboards. Large or intricate files may take a few seconds to be generated.
    4. When you’re finished, your files will be automatically stored in their own subdirectory by default.

Saving Objects From an Adobe Illustrator Image

It is possible that you may need to save or export only chosen items from a bigger work of art at some point. For example, while designing a logo in Illustrator, you might wish to save the text or the symbol in a separate file from the rest of the logo. This may be accomplished by converting the objects into Assets.

    1. Select Window > Asset Export from the menu bar.
    2. Select the Selection Tool from the Toolbar or press the V key on your keyboard to activate it. Drag the items you wish to save into the Asset Export panel from the Objects panel.
    3. Select the Asset from the drop-down menu. Holding down the Ctrl or Cmd key will allow you to choose several items.
    4. Select a format from the Export Settings drop-down menu. You have the option of choosing between PNG, JPEG, SVG, or PDF.
    5. If you’re saving as a PNG or JPEG, you’ll be able to export it in a variety of sizes. Set the Scale to 1x, then click Add Scale and change the Scale to, for example, 2x before clicking Save. You may also utilize this feature to export the item in a variety of other formats.
    6. Select Export from the File menu and specify where you want your new files to be saved.

How to Use Adobe Illustrator Files in Other Apps

There’s more to it than that: Photoshop is capable of immediately opening AI files, but only as flat, uneditable pictures.Instead, select Export As from the Work menu to save the file in the PSD format. When you open the file in Photoshop, all of the different layers are still present.

You will almost certainly need to save the file in the SVG format for most non-Adobe applications (using the Save As command this time). For additional information, please refer to our instruction on how to open AI files without Adobe Illustrator (in English). It is critical to understand how to export your work in different formats.Check out our Adobe Illustrator tips to make your design process run more quickly now that you’ve mastered the program.

Can I package my PSD files for export and include the fonts?

Unfortunately, at present time, it is not possible to integrate typefaces in Photoshop PSD files. It was originally recommended on the Adobe Photoshop forums a few years ago, for example, here.Fonts cannot be included in Photoshop files because of limitations in the format.

Because it keeps the appearance of the typefaces, but it does not enable you to alter the text layers if you do not have the appropriate font installed on your computer (the text layers will be replaced with another font), it is not recommended. It’s possible to save the file as a Photoshop PDF in order to include the fonts, but it won’t be editable on a machine that doesn’t have the appropriate fonts installed. To be more precise, the Photoshop format is so terrible that it does not enable you to modify text layers in some circumstances if you do not have the appropriate font loaded. For the sake of this experiment, I produced a Photoshop PDF file that had a custom font text layer.

The typeface was integrated in the document (checked in Adobe Acrobat). Then I removed the typeface from my computer. After opening the file in Photoshop and attempting to modify it, it requested me to change the font (since I did not have the font I had used to construct the text layers).I saved the file and then re-installed the font.

Even though the font was present and I was allowed to use it, Photoshop nevertheless suggested me to change it when I reopened my work. For some reason, Photoshop didn’t recognize the font and asked me to replace it.So, if you wish to modify the PSD file on a different computer (or by someone else), you have a few possibilities (none of which would be a great answer for you, I’m afraid): 1.

Use Adobe Photoshop Elements (which is free).

    1. The easiest but most likely the worst method is to use standard typefaces such as Arial, Tahoma, and Verdana, among others
    2. Manually include the font files (you should verify the font’s licensing conditions to see whether this is permissible before proceeding). Because of the peculiar reasons explained above, it is not guaranteed to operate on another machine
    3. however, you may always ″alter″ the font to the one that was initially used to keep the file’s look
    4. When it comes to text layers, rasterize them if they are not going to be modified later (you may wish to duplicate the text layer first and hide the copy – just in case)
    5. Convert text layers to shapes – this is preferable to rasterizing since it allows you to adjust the size and form of the text layer without affecting the quality of the image. Nonetheless, because it does not allow for the modification of text, it is recommended that you duplicate the layer prior to conversion.

9 ways to minimize file size in Illustrator

Graphics that are astute The size of your files can have a major impact on the speed of your process. It may take several minutes to complete the editing process, magnify the screen, and simply save the file.In addition, big file sizes are frequently the cause of application crashes, which result in the loss of all or part of the work that has been completed.

It is possible to minimize such losses by using the autosaving option of the Autosaviour plugin, although this does not completely eliminate the possibility of losing time when saving a huge file for the next time.As a result, it is critical to understand how to minimize the file size in order to make it easier to use with the least amount of delay. In this post, you will learn about nine techniques for reducing the size of the source vector file.

    1. Save options

When we save a file for the first time (File > Save…or File > Save As…), Illustrator’s settings dialog box appears, which we may customize.Uncheck the Create PDF Compatible File box and check the Use Compression box if you want to greatly reduce the file size.

The file size is greatly reduced as a result of this selection of choices. In this example, we used a sophisticated vector stock image as a basis for our experiment. In some sections of design, the option to Create PDF Compatible File may be necessary to be selected.Alternatively, you may pick it at the final save (File > Save As…), when the task will be totally completed.

Additionally, the option to Create PDF Compatible File can assist you in recovering Illustrator files after a crash. However, if you install the Autosaviour plugin, which can generate a backup copy of the file, you won’t have to worry about doing any recovery.

    2. Deleting unused Swatches, Graphic Styles and Symbols

With every new project, it’s more than probable that you’ll be presented with an assortment of default colors, styles, and symbols, which not only increase the size of your file but also clog up your panels.Using VectorFirstAid, it’s simple to get rid of them.To begin, open the panel by selecting Window > VectorFirstAid > VectorFirstAid Panel from the menu bar.

On the panel, pick Check Document and then Fix All to fix everything that shows in the results box (you can alternatively fix each result separately by selecting it and then clicking Fix Selected). If you have any questions, contact your system administrator. The VectorFirstAid panel allows you to attach this to an action or schedule it at your convenience.

    3. Using linked images

With every new project, it’s more than probable that you’ll be presented with an assortment of default colors, styles, and symbols, which not only increase the size of your file but also clog up your panel space.Using VectorFirstAid to clean things up is a breeze. For starters, navigate to Window > VectorFirstAid > VectorFirstAid Panel to access the panel.

To repair everything that shows in the results box, click Check Document on the panel, then click Fix All.(You can also fix each result separately by choosing it and clicking Fix Selected.) The VectorFirstAid panel allows you to assign this to an action and schedule it at any time.

    4. Cropping of unneeded embedded image data

In circumstances when we still need to use embedded pictures, we can remove a portion of an image that is no longer required by utilizing Rasterino. If the picture has a backdrop that contains transparent or white pixels, we may delete them by selecting Trim Image from the Rasterino panel (Window > Rasterino > Rasterino panel) and clicking on the Trim Image button. As soon as you choose the desired parameters from the dialog box, Rasterino will erase any portions of the image that do not contain vital information.

We can also crop the picture by choosing the relevant portion of it and then using the Crop Image Tool in Rasterino or the Crop Image button in the Rasterino panel to crop the image to our liking.Certainly, cropping a portion of an embedded image will minimize the overall size of the file without a doubt.

    5. Reducing the resolution of Raster Effects

This option will allow you to scale back the resolution of all raster effects that have been applied to the current page.To accomplish this, select Effect > Document Raster Effects Settings from the menu bar and enter a low number for the resolution in the dialog box that appears.Additionally, it will speed up the display of visuals on the screen while zooming, in addition to reducing the file size of the file.

After you have finished editing the file, you may adjust the resolution to the appropriate setting.

    6. Removing excess points

The number of anchor points in your file has an impact on the size of your file as well.It is possible to minimize the number of objects by utilizing the native Illustrator tool Simplify (Object > Path > Simplify).Using this function is recommended for rough processing of the pathways, such as lowering the number of points of vector textures when the geometry of objects does not need to be maintained, but it can dramatically modify the shape of the image, including items of detail that may be necessary.

However, utilizing the VectorFirstAid plugin is a superior choice since it allows us to clear up superfluous points while retaining precision by using the Super Smart Remove (also present in VectorScribe) points on pathways button situated on the panel of the plugin. As a result, the number of points in your whole document or selection will be reduced to a preset tolerance, which may be altered in the panel’s settings. In this example, you can see that when compared to the native Simplify functionality, VectorFirstAid gives a superior quality end result.COMPARISON OF POINT REMOVAL QUALITY |

ORIGINAL / SIMPLIFY / VECTORFIRSTAID However, when it comes to precision, such as deleting superfluous points from vector outlines, it may be preferable to utilize the Smart Remove Brush Tool rather than the Smart Remove Tool (VectorScribe).Using this tool, you can really sweep surplus points away like you would with a broom! You may also alter the tolerance by adjusting the pressure sensitivity of your tablet’s screen. It also enables VectorScribe to identify and automatically eliminate superfluous points from specified pathways, which is quite useful.

When you open the PathScribe Preferences dialog box, you’ll see both of these options. This artwork, with which we tested, featured a total of 156 redundancy points.

    7. Reducing Width Markers

The use of the Width Brush Tool or the Width Gradient Tool (WidthScribe plugin) in conjunction with a uniform route and a variable width path might result in the generation of a huge number of width markers.Their excessive use increases the file size and causes the program to sluggishly respond while editing or zooming in and out of the screen. The Optimise Width Markers function of the WidthScribe plugin (Object > Path > Optimise Width Markers) may be used to automatically decrease the number by a factor of two.

The path’s overall form will not be greatly altered. With the Width Eraser Tool (WidthScribe plugin), you may erase the additional width marks from your document directly by hand.

    8. Using Symbols

Vector artworks can contain numerous items or groups of objects as a consequence of duplication, and this is known as multiplication. This is the case if you wish to replicate an object, save it as a symbol and place it in the Symbols panel (Window > Symbols). Then, for example, using the Symbol Sprayer Tool, proceed to the duplicating character.

The use of symbols allows for a significant reduction in the size of the original file. When you wish to reproduce complicated objects, their use is especially justifiable in this case.

    9. Minimizing the number of steps of Blend objects

Multi-object or group-of-object vector artworks can be created as a consequence of duplication and can contain several items or groups of objects. As a workaround in this situation, create a symbol out of the object you wish to replicate and store it in the Windows Symbols panel (File > Symbols). Then, using the Symbol Sprayer Tool, create a duplicate of the character you just created.

Because symbols are used, the original file is significantly smaller. When you wish to reproduce complicated things, their use is especially justified.

Optimize native and PDF file sizes in Illustrator

If you save your Adobe Illustrator papers as native Illustrator (AI) files or as PDF files, this article can assist you in reducing the file size of your work. The file size of the document might be greatly reduced or increased depending on the parameters you select. These settings need careful consideration in order to minimize file size and performance.

When you save an Illustrator project as an AI file, consider utilizing the following Illustrator parameters to reduce the file size of the document you are saving. It is specified by the Fonts option when to embed the whole font (and not just the characters used) in the document dependent on how many of the font’s characters are used in the page.As a result of embedding fonts, the file size grows since the file contains more font glyphs than the page can use.If, for example, you embed a typeface that includes 1,000 characters in a page that only utilizes 10 of those characters, the increase can be considerable.

Illustrator, by default, subsets any font that occurs less than 100 percent of the time in a document. If you want to keep file sizes under control, consider utilizing the default settings. The percentage value should be set to zero percent if you want the entire typeface to be embedded.

    Create PDF Compatible File option

Ai files may be saved in both the PDF and PGF formats. If you select the Create PDF Compatible File option, Illustrator generates a file with an accompanying PDF syntax that is compatible with any program that recognizes PDF files and can be opened in any other application that supports PDF.If you pick this option, the file size will rise since you will be saving two different formats within the Illustrator file, as explained above.

    Include Linked Files option

The Include Linked Files option only pertains to the PGF part of the file when it is selected. When you pick Create PDF Compatible File from the File menu, Illustrator automatically embeds linked files, regardless of whether the Include Linked Files option is enabled. If you do not wish to produce a PDF-compatible file, you may deselect the Create PDF Compatible File option to lower the size of the file created.

Please keep in mind that because Illustrator CS contains all connected files by default, the file size will rise by the size of the linked files in addition to the file size. Therefore, a file with little artwork but several huge linked files might end up being substantially larger than it should be.Make certain that the compression options are selected since compression decreases the size of the file.

(CS5 onwards) Save each Artboard as a Separate File Transparency

Saving Illustrator documents as PDF files

When you save an Illustrator project as a PDF file, you should consider utilizing the following Illustrator settings to reduce the file size of the PDF document.

    Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities option

Maintaining Illustrator’s editing capabilities is accomplished by instructing Illustrator to include PGF data in the PDF file.It is possible that if you do not choose Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities when you save a PDF document, and then open the PDF document in Illustrator, Illustrator will flatten the transparency inside the document. To be able to open and edit the PDF file in Illustrator again, select this option from the drop-down menu.

This option, on the other hand, is designed to offset excessive compression and downsampling while also increasing file size.

Optimize for Fast Web View option

Optimization for Fast Web View reduces file size, makes page-by-page downloading easier, and replaces repeated pictures with references to the initial appearances of those images, among other things. If the PDF file will not be read on the web, it is still a good idea to utilize the Optimize for Fast Web View option to minimize the file size of the document.

Create Acrobat Layers From Top Level Layers option

    • This option stores the Illustrator top-level layers as Acrobat layers in the PDF file created by the Illustrator top-level layers. This feature enables users of Adobe Acrobat 6.x and later to produce numerous versions of a document from a single source file. For example, if you intend to publish a document in many languages, you may organize the text for each language in a separate layer of the document. If you are using Acrobat 6.x or later, your printer or prepress service provider can then display and conceal the layers in order to produce alternative copies of the document. It is important to note that this option is only accessible when the Compatibility setting is set to Acrobat 6.0 (1.5), Acrobat 7.0 (1.6), Acrobat 8.0 (1.7), or Acrobat 9.0. (1.7). Using the PDF format, you may compress text and line art, as well as downsample and compress bitmap images, when saving an Illustrator file as a PDF. Compression and downsampling, depending on the parameters you use, can drastically reduce the size of a PDF file while retaining little or no loss of quality or precision. It is divided into three areas in the Compression portion of the Adobe PDF Options dialog box. For color, grayscale, and monochrome pictures, the following choices are available for compression and resampling in each section: Compression (also known as downsampling): If you intend to publish the PDF file on the internet, you should downscale it to enable for greater compression to be achieved. Don’t use downsampling if you want to print the PDF file at a high quality
    • otherwise, do so. Disable all downsampling options by deselecting the corresponding checkbox. Downsampling is the process of reducing the number of pixels in a digital picture. To downscale color, grayscale, or monochrome pictures, select an interpolation technique and the appropriate resolution from the drop-down menu (in pixels per inch). Then, in the For Images Above box, type in the resolution you want to use. If the picture resolution is higher than this threshold, Illustrator downscales all of the images. The interpolation method you pick has an impact on how pixels are eliminated. For example: Average Downsampling is the process of taking an average of the pixels in a sample area and replacing the entire area with the color of the average pixel at the desired resolution.
    • To determine pixel color, Bicubic Downsampling use weighted averages rather than the basic averaging technique of downsampling. This method often produces better results than the simple averaging method of downsampling. In contrast to bicubic sampling, which selects a pixel in the middle of the sample area and replaces the whole sample area with the color of that pixel, subsampling replaces the entire sample area with the color of the pixel chosen at random. When compared to downsampling, subsampling greatly reduces the conversion time, but results in pictures that are less smooth and continuous.

Compression (Compression): This property specifies the type of compression that is utilized. The Automatic option automatically determines the optimum feasible compression and quality for the artwork contained inside the file when it is selected. This option delivers good results for the vast majority of files.

If you want the maximum degree of compatibility, choose Automatic (JPEG).Automatic (JPEG2000) compression is recommended for the best results.ZIP compression is particularly effective on photos that feature huge sections of single colors or repeating patterns, as well as on black-and-white images that contain repeating patterns in black and white.Depending on the Quality option, ZIP compression can be either lossless or lossy in nature.

JPEG compression is suited for photos in either grayscale or color.Image quality can be reduced since JPEG compression is lossy, which means that it eliminates data from the image while maintaining image quality. However, it makes an attempt to decrease file size while preserving as much information as possible.Given that JPEG compression removes data, it can result in significantly reduced file sizes than ZIP compression.

JPEG2000 is the new worldwide standard for the compression and packaging of picture data.It was developed by the Joint Photographic Expert
