    Street Address Formula

    The street address in the FullAddress field is terminated with the symbol ″- ″. The following is an example of a formula that yields the street address. Using the LEFT function to retrieve text from the left side of a cell and the FIND function to determine the number of characters in a cell, the following formula may be generated: =LEFT(, FIND(″-″,)-2) is a logical expression.

    City Formula

    • In the FullAddress cell, the city comes after the ″ – ″ and is followed by a comma at the conclusion.
    • Here is an example of a formula that yields the location of the city.

    The FIND function returns the location of the comma in the shorter address, and 4 is deducted to account for the ″ -″ string in the abbreviated address. FIND(″,″,SUBSTITUTE(,″″)) -4

    State Formula

    The state is located after the city in the FullAddress cell and is represented by two characters. Here is an example of a formula that yields the current state. It makes use of the MID function, which produces text depending on a starting location and the amount of characters in the string: MID =MID(, FIND(,) +LEN()+2,2) =MID(, FIND(,) +LEN()+2,2)

    Starting Position

    Then, to account for the two-letter state code and the space, a factor of three is added to the number. FIND(,) + 3 is a search function.

    Number of Characters

    Given that the zip code is always either 5 or 9 characters in length, the higher number (9) is entered into the algorithm. It is not necessary to do a calculation. This will return results with up to a maximum of nine characters and is applicable to both forms of zip codes. =MID(, FIND(,)+3, 9) is a mathematical formula.
