    Meet The MDX:

    • Nonetheless, even among the antiquated interior technology, the MDX receives some welcome changes for 2019, including a revised nine-speed automated gearbox and optional adaptive dampers as standard equipment.
    • Additionally, the A-Spec appearance package is new for 2019 and provides the MDX with the competitive advantage it requires to remain relevant in the class — at least in terms of appearance.
    • Here are a few things we like about the 2019 Acura MDX A-Spec, as well as a few things we don’t.

    1. Even if it’s not as sporty as it appears on the outside, you’ll find yourself appreciating it in almost any driving situation with the car.


    • The MDX’s appealing exterior gives the impression that it is newer than it actually is, but its age is evident on the interior, particularly in the infotainment system.
    • Two display displays are placed on top of one another in the middle of the dash, one of which is controlled by a dash-mounted knob and the other by a touchscreen.
    • The two screens are front and center.
    • The two are supposed to function together, but that couldn’t be further from the reality in this situation.

    • Nonetheless, the MDX’s 38.1-inch headroom and 38.5-inch legroom are at the lower end of the class’s average measurements.

    • The seat may be folded forward with a single push of a button, creating a short doorway allowing access to the last row of seats.
    1. As for headroom and legroom in the third row, they are respectable, if not somewhat below-average for the class, measuring 36.2 inches and 29.1 inches, respectively.
    2. However, as is true of many mid-size crossovers with a third row, this is not a vehicle in which you want to transport average-sized persons for lengthy periods of time.

    • Technology-wise, the MDX’s TrueTouchpad interface is the star of the show when it comes to technology.
    • The square infotainment touchpad controller, which is a carryover from the RDX and TLX, illuminates a matching selection on the 12.3-inch screen when your finger is placed in a precise spot on the controller.
    • If an icon is located at the top right corner of the screen, for example, you can just place your finger on the top right of the touchpad controller to activate it by pressing it.
    • It will take some time to get acclimated to the configuration, but once you do, it is one of the best alternatives available at the time of this writing.
    • Unfortunately, while both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included as standard features — and both work flawlessly – the same touchpad capability does not transfer over to the new model.
    • A selection option can no longer be selected by merely placing your finger in the same location as the choice on a computer’s screen.
    • Instead, you must now use the touchpad in the same way that you would use the trackpad on your laptop, which makes driving more difficult while doing so.
    • However, while this isn’t primarily an Acura issue, it is more of an Apple or Android one, and it is fairly aggravating.
    • A standard touchscreen would be more convenient to use.
    • Having said that, the fussy smartphone interface is really the only drawback we have with the entire arrangement, and it is a minor one.

    • Initially available in early next year, the 2022 MDX will start at $47,925 in base front-wheel-drive form.
    • That’s somewhat more expensive than the $45,525 beginning price of the model year 2020.
    • Beginning from $49,925 for all-wheel-drive models, compared to $47,525 for the previous year (all prices here include destination).
    • In related news, the next-generation Acura MDX will emphasize luxury and performance while also including the Type S model.
    • So, what do you get for the extra money?
    • A great deal.
    • The Acura MDX for 2022 is built on a new platform that offers bold new appearance, better inside materials, and some added safety and technology options.

    1. Acura, Honda’s luxury brand, calls it ″the most premium and performance-focused MDX in Acura history.″ Apart from unveiling and announcing the production MDX’s cost, Acura also provided further information on the vehicle’s standard features, as well as the Type S variant that will join the range when the ordinary MDX goes on sale.

    Safety Features

    • Traffic Jam Assist, traffic sign recognition, pedestrian detection, and a new driver attention monitor are among the additional safety technologies that have been added to the MDX’s equipment list as standard features.
    • Prior to this, Traffic Jam Assist, which allows for lane-centering steering all the way down to a complete stop, was available exclusively on the RLX sedan.
    • All of these capabilities are in addition to the previously standard AcuraWatch suite of active safety and driver aid systems, which includes frontal collision warning with automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control, among others.
    • Low Speed Braking Control, a new optional safety feature that is included in the Technology Package, is a front and rear automated braking system that works automatically at low speeds.
    • In order to detect solid objects at low speeds, the vehicle employs sonar-based parking sensors, which either provide a warning or apply the brakes.

    Type S

    • Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system is standard on the MDX Type S, which is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 with an estimated 355 horsepower and 354 pounds-feet of torque.
    • The MDX Type S is also available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged V-6.
    • Additionally, standard 21-inch wheels, better brakes, a more luxury interior, and an enhanced audio system are all included in the Type S package.
    • There is currently no information on Type S pricing.
    • The Liquid Carbon Metallic paint used on the prototype will also be available for purchase.

    Gas Mileage 

    • The regular-edition 2022 MDX is powered by a variant of last year’s 290-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission rather than the prior nine-speed.
    • Acura anticipates that the 2022 MDX in front-drive configuration will achieve an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 19/26/22 mpg city/highway/combined, which is not good news because those figures are somewhat lower than the current generation’s 20/27/23 mpg EPA ratings, which is also not good news.
    • The MDX Hybrid’s future is also out in the air, with no indication on whether or not it will be brought back.

    Release Date
