    Appearance Protection – worth it?

    1. Date of joining: September 24, 2010 23:17:0 Location: Phoenix Vehicle: 2010 Toyota Prius III, Model: III. Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 2010 Prius III. The Appearance Protection Plus package, which includes paint guard, fiber/leather guard, and limitless elimination of dents and dings without sanding or painting for three years, is what Hubby is interested in. It will set you back $699. He mostly desires it for the purpose of ding and dent removal. Do you believe it’s worth it, everyone? Aside from that, they’re attempting to sell us Lojack ($695), tire/wheel protection ($249), Auto care (oil/filter changes for 48 months/45000 miles for $440), and Toyota Extra Care (96 months/125,000 miles for $2,615). I’ve previously seen the topic on this forum where it can be purchased for $1055 by using this forum. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks.

I do not advocate any of these dealer add-ons since they are all designed to maximize the dealership’s profit margins to the tune of 95 percent! I would not be concerned about dents until they occur, at which point you should seek the services of your local paint-less dent doctor. Unless you park in an inconvenient location, you’re unlikely to acquire that many, and the handful you do get will cost far less than $700 to repair. The remainder of the bundle may be completed for less than $50 by the customer. As for lojack, it’s a complete waste of money
    3. there’s a post somewhere on this site that demonstrates that Prius is one of the least attractive cars to thieves! Toyota may still be giving free two-year maintenance at the time of writing. As a result, the $440 plan is only valid for two years. Oil changes are performed using pure synthetic oil, which means that they are only required every 5000 miles, if you do the calculations. Additionally, you may go to a local tire shop and purchase a lifetime balance/rotation package that includes road hazard protection for your tires
    4. the likelihood of losing a rim is quite low. This is just my two cents.

I liked the pitch for the fabric/paint protection, so I had it installed, and I’m pleased with the results. The cost was reasonable, perhaps 600 dollars. Dirt and stains remain on the surface of the cloth and do not penetrate. Liquids do not absorb into the skin. Use a cloth or a vacuum to clean up after yourself. Any stains that I can’t get out are dealt with by them, even if it means replacing the item. Paint protection—I’m not sure what to say. I’d say the car appears to be ″shinier.″ The paint has a smoother feel to it. The water beads up on the unwaxed automobile as if it had been waxed. Overall, the 600 dollars was well spent only for the fabric protection. It’s a breeze to maintain clean.
    7. Joined: Sep 24, 2010 23:17 0 Location: Phoenix Vehicle: 2010 Prius III Model: Thank you so much, Harshlife. To be really honest, I’m thinking about it again. My spouse is a little obsessed with stains and dents, so it could be worth buying simply for the piece of mind and the fact that I won’t have to worry about applying anything myself. I’m going to go around and price various ding-repair shops to see what they’re charging. Because the parking garages at work are so small, it’s difficult to avoid parking too near to someone else—plus, I work at a university, where students aren’t always the most cautious about such things! It is possible that I can negotiate a price reduction with them.
    8. All of those items are payments to the dealer on behalf of the yacht. Simply state your dissatisfaction:_> Scotchguard fabric protection is a $12 spray can that can be found at any hardware store. The waxed look of the paint protection *is* a result of a waxing operation on the vehicle. You may save $650 if you do all of the work yourself.
    9. Date of joining: September 24, 2010 23:17 0 Phoenix is the location. Vehicle: 2010 Toyota Prius III, Model: III. Thank you so much, Richard. We’re actually having after-market leather installed in the car, so I’ll have to look into leather protection for the time being. Have yet to find the time to estimate dent repair costs. That is also a consideration. Once again, thank you. Any and all suggestions are greatly welcomed!
    10. About 5 years ago, I had a couple of tiny dents repaired by a paintless dent repair facility named Car Medic (there are numerous others). The company came to my house and removed the two dents for a total of $40 each, plus tax. For $699, they could remove a lot of minor dings and dings. As far as Lojack is concerned, it may be able to assist you in recovering your vehicle if it has been stolen. However, as Paul58 points out, Prius(es) are rarely stolen since they are not precisely what youngsters want for a joy ride. Then there is the fact that, with the immobilizer system that Toyota employs, there is simply no way to get it started unless by leaving a key in the ignition or by leaving it running. Furthermore, I have always believed that if my automobile is stolen, the last thing I want is to struggle with the insurance company in order to get it back
    11. instead, I would prefer to fight with the insurance company and get a new one. As a matter of fact, I would argue that everything you were provided was a rip-off, which is not unusual for vehicle dealerships. Simply drive your Prius in the manner in which it was delivered to the dealer, with no additional dealer choices, and enjoy. BTW, do not purchase an extended warranty from the dealer
    12. you have three years and three thousand six hundred miles to determine if you want one or not. In the event that you decide to purchase one, you may purchase the Toyota extended warranty through this website for a far lower price than what a dealer would charge for the same service.

Toyota advises changing the oil every 10k miles, thus if you purchase the Toyota care plan, you will only receive 4 oil changes. And it will only cost you 200 dollars if you pay for it.
    14. In practically every situation when someone inquires about the ″value″ of a dealer option, the overwhelming consensus is that it is worthless. With cautionary stories of Rumpelstiltskin-like sellers who turn your Gold into Straw, you should be cautious. However, I’m going to take a somewhat different approach. While I believe that most dealers’ services and extras are exorbitant and meant to merely maximize profit for themselves by catching consumers at a vulnerable time, others believe that this is not the case. If it is an additional or service that you are quite certain you will want or utilize, I would say go for it. Then, despite the fact that it may appear to be a ″poor value″ on paper, it may be worth it in terms of mental peace of mind. Whether anything is genuine or imagined. One aspect of many dealer protection packages that I dislike is that they are frequently used to take advantage of the situation. or make any attempt to take advantage of any warranty that may be contained. You become obligated to use the dealership’s services and whatever third-party services they choose to provide. In a large number of instances? If I had the choice, I would choose the product, service, or provider in the aftermarket. Or at the very least, the ability to make a choice. In any case, there you have it: my ″On The Fence″ argument for and against.
    15. Joined: Jun 5, 2009 174 10 0. I don’t understand it. I used to work at a dealership, and Hendrick Autoguard reminds me of a more upscale version of NuPolish and Scotchgard. For exterior paint, a clay bar and a wax every few months is really all that’s required. I’ll throw in a little icebreaker for good measure: Paint ″protection″ applied at the dealership (such as Perma-Plate, Hendrick Autoguard/First Place Finish, Resist-All, and so on) is completely ineffective. Those goods include a lot of silicones. A decent wax on top of a clay bar and Klasse silver bottle is recommended if you truly want to preserve your paint. Meguiar’s or Mother’s at the very least are ideal brands to start with when protecting your paint. If your automobile has a lot of swirl marks, you may either hire a professional detailer or polish the car yourself. You should avoid using a rotatory buffer and ″classic″ compounds such as 3M’s if you opt to do your own paint correction. To polish, use a random orbit polisher such as a Porter-Cable or Meguiar’s and a ″gentle″ compound such as Menzerna’s Intensive Polish or Meguiar’s 105. Take your time and don’t rush the process. Keep the machine moving and at a low speed when polishing.

People believe that a magical substance has been put to the paint or cloth to make it appear to be magical. The reality of the matter is that this is nothing more than information that you may use yourself. Make use of an excellent detailing forum like as Autopia.org to learn about the greatest goods available on the market that are affordable to everyone and can be found anywhere. And, no matter how good a product is, it will never be able to survive indefinitely. Don’t believe the marketing hype and instead get two cans of scotchguard to use on your carpet and furniture. Purchase a high-quality paint sealant and do the project yourself. Your paint will be protected with the same sealant that the dealers use. You may put your trust in me. I have no clue whether or not it was a good investment, and I will probably reserve judgment until after the three-year period has passed. But I didn’t pay much for it, and it was certainly convenient to have someone else do all of the work while I sat back and watched the football game. However, this is not the problem. What is the value of this bundle in Hubby’s eyes. Sometimes it is worth spending any amount of money to maintain the harmony in the family. If he insists on doing anything, simply go along with it. It’s not worth it to be ″absolutely correct.″ If he’s on the fence, you can persuade him to change his mind. And, even worse, if you don’t get it, something bad happens, and you can’t get a stain out, or whatever, he’ll give you the stinkeye for the rest of the time you’re driving in the car. It’s simply not worth it for me. That does not imply that you will receive all of the garbage. Only the things that he is truly interested in. So, when you really want to go shoe shopping (like my girlfriend does), he doesn’t have much leeway to say no because he’s already committed. Mike, you’re a moron.

I decided to go forward with the tire replacement since it appears to be a much better value, especially when the dealer reduced the price by a significant margin from the original quotation price (dealer was great to deal with all around including the purchase). An expensive flat run tire replacement might cost upwards of 500 dollars (got 4 year plan I believe). You can get a better deal than 1650 for your money.February 25, 2015 at 5:50 p.m.The Deal Addict loriblum Dec 21, 2010 1628 posts 890 upvotes GTA loriblum Deal Addict February 25, 2015 at 5:50 p.m.Is this something that can be negotiated?

No.It’s possible if this is selling for around $300.If you’re still debating whether or not to obtain this ″Curb rash″ protection, you should get it in writing.(It’s sort of like your deductible in glass replacement policy, but more specific.) Because this falls within the wheels and tires protection policy, it should be taken seriously.

    Appearance Protection

Maintain the appearance of your investment for a longer period of time.

    Protection Summary

Each and every day, drivers are confronted with events on the road that are beyond their control: the weather, road salt, and the occasional squirming child. However, these experiences do not have to spoil your day or depreciate the worth of your vehicle.Additional to the three-part protection system, Appearance Protection includes a guarantee that covers everyday interior and exterior damage to help keep your new or previously used car looking as beautiful as the day you purchased it.

    • Appearance Protection provides coverage to ensure that your vehicle’s exterior and interior continue to look their best. Protects the exterior of the building by forming a transparent, protective barrier that keeps out oxidation, contaminants, and UV radiation.
    • Additionally, it protects new automobiles against acid rain, tree sap, love bugs, and road salt
    • it also helps the vehicle preserve its value and excellent appearances for many years.
    • Spills including water and oil are repelled by this product’s inside protection.
    • Additionally, it protects new automobiles from minor rips, tears, and burns.
    • Reduces fading, discolouration, and wear and tear associated with regular use
    • It should be noted that new automobiles can have rips and tears up to two inches long and burns up to one-half inch in diameter.
    • Damage to portions of the vehicle that were not treated with the Appearance Protection chemical agent is not covered under this policy.

    For These Vehicles

    • Auto
    • Motorcycle
    • RV
    • Marine
    • For These Buyers

      • Cash
      • Finance
      • Lease
      • There are restrictions and exclusions that apply. The Appearance Protection product is an optional extra that does not provide insurance coverage. The extent of coverage varies depending on the product agreement and the state or province in which it is purchased. Terms and conditions are detailed in the appropriate product agreement, which you should consult for further information.

Priced upwards of $1,000+, these dealer add-ons are often unnecessary but unavoidable.

A car in the proper trim level, color, and with an acceptable number of optional factory accessories already installed has been identified as the one you desire.Even better, there is no additional dealer mark-up, and if there is, it is far lower than anticipated. Then you discover a ″appearance package″ or ″appearance charge″ for several hundred dollars, which you decide to take advantage of.Getty Images images are used in this embed.

What is an appearance package and can I avoid this fee?

        • An appearance package, often known as an appearance charge, is a collection of third-party product add-ons placed at a dealership with the goal of improving and protecting a vehicle’s factory appearance. A vehicle’s aesthetic package, while it may provide some real-world benefits, such as protection against paint chips and door dings, as well as an additional layer of security against wheel theft, it is frequently expensive and intended to increase the total profit of the transaction. As previously stated, they are not genuine OEM improvements. The following are examples of common add-ons to the package: Door edge paint protection, scratch resistant door cups, graphic pinstripes, wheel well trim, wheel locking, window tinting, vin etching, paint sealant, mudflaps, and more options are available.
        • Consider the following example: the appearance package from a 2021 Hyundai Palisade. Let’s figure out how much each item would cost if we were to purchase it ourselves. Window and door edge paint protection from Weathertech is $109
        • a door cup kit from Weathertech is also $109.
        • Custom pinstriping for an SUV costs around $250 (on average).
        • Four-wheel-drive wheel well trim costs $284
        • Palisade wheel locks cost $60

Buying each item separately and installing them ourselves would save us $198 in total.More importantly, we would have the freedom to choose which upgrades we want when we want them without being forced to pay for upgrades we don’t want (I’m looking at you, pinstriping). If you look at the featured image, that appearance package from a Honda Civic Type R includes NitroFill, an add-on I’ve previously blogged about and concluded is not worth the money. You’re essentially paying for the privilege of breathing!

Can I avoid paying for an appearance package fee?

It is dependent on the situation. You can inquire, but dealerships are likely to say no.A large number of these dealer add-ons have already been installed, making it difficult to remove them without ruining the protection or leaving holes in the vehicle. If a dealership knows you’re emotionally engaged in a vehicle but you haven’t seen the vehicle yet, they may try to add an aesthetic package as soon as possible. Before you set foot on a dealership lot, it would behoove you to inquire as to whether there is an appearance package available that you are not aware of.

        • While dealers may be prepared to lower the price if it’s already in effect, that’s about all you can expect in a seller’s market like this one.
        • This market frenzy will subside in due course, but bargaining for a car at this time is perilous if it’s something you truly want.

r/carbuying – What are ″Total Financed Aftermarket Items″ on Car Deal Used Car Cost Breakdown?

I’m in the process of purchasing a used automobile with low mileage from a dealership. On the expense breakdown, I saw the phrase ″Total Financed Aftermarket Items.″ Is there anyone who can assist me?Aside from that, is this the typical procedure for a ″used″ automobile transaction as opposed to purchasing a new vehicle from a dealership? Thanks! To make a comment, you must first log in or create an account.

        • 1st grade Product types that are not specified needed as collateral for the transaction are referred to as Total Financed Aftermarket Items.
        • As an illustration: The bank has the authority to repossess a vehicle as well as any physical assets associated with it (such as aftermarket tires and rims, moonroof, stereo).
        • Those are the kinds of products that are referred to as ″Hard Adds.″ As a result, in the case of a default, the ″Hard Adds″ should still be present on the vehicle and so constitute part of the collateral.
        • When it comes to Aftermarket sale products, they are referred to as ″soft additions,″ which are intangible and non-repossessable in nature.

Service contracts, GAP insurance, maintenance agreements, and any other ″insurance″ products that the F&I manager will provide throughout the contracting process are examples of what I’m talking about.Due to the fact that the bank cannot repossess them, they are often shown on that line.Note that everything stated on that line is fully voluntary and is not a necessity as a condition of sale at the level 1 level.level 2Many thanks for the helpful information! One quick question: If the ″Total Financed Aftermarket Items″ include things like seat fabric warranty, glass tint warranty, ding repair, and so on, do you think it’s reasonable for me to reject those add-ons as part of the deal because I don’t really want them and wouldn’t use them in the majority of instances?

There Are Some Dealership Fees You Should Refuse To Pay

When you’re ready to purchase a new vehicle, you’ll most likely spend a significant amount of time selecting the ideal brand and model, establishing a budget, obtaining approval for a car loan, and selecting a car dealership. When you sign the paperwork, you have a general sense of how much money you will be agreeing to pay.But what about all of the small fees that, when added together, might add up to hundreds of dollars to your total bill?Any vehicle salesperson would strive to acquire as much money as possible for the automobile they are selling; after all, their livelihood is based on commissions.Fortunately, understanding what expenses to expect and which ones to fight will help you save a significant amount of money in the long run.

        Unavoidable Fees

When purchasing a car from a dealership, you will be required to pay the following fees, which you should be aware of.Destination charge: Your vehicle must be transported from the manufacturer to the dealership, and the dealership will ask you to bear the price of transporting it there. The price is established by the carmaker, not the dealership, and it is often consistent across all of the vehicles that the automaker sells to the dealership.

        • When purchasing a vehicle from a car dealership, you will be required to pay the fees listed below. Destination charge: Your vehicle must be transported from the manufacturer to the dealership, and the dealership will need you to bear the price of transporting it. The price is established by the carmaker, not the dealership, and it is often consistent across all of the vehicles that the automaker sells to that dealership.

If you currently have license plates, ensure sure the registration price is adjusted to reflect this fact. You may find out what the costs should be by checking the DMV’s website or phoning the office in your area.

Fees You Might Have To Pay

Keep an eye out for the following charge. You will need to conduct your own due diligence in order to determine whether or not this fee is appropriate.Advertising fee: Dealerships spend money to advertise their businesses, and they will attempt to pass on a portion of that expense to you as a customer.Ideally, you should be informed of this expense before signing the final paperwork, and in many cases, it will be listed on the vehicle’s sales tag.If the first time you hear about it is in the contract, make a strong case for having it removed from the agreement.

        Fees You Should Never Pay

        • Don’t be tricked into spending more money than you really have to on your vacation. These are costs that you should never be required to pay. Charge for dealer preparation: The preparation cost, which is similar to the delivery price and may be included on that unauthorized sticker, is derived from the process of putting the item together. Pricing the items, completing the sale, and other activities. It should be included in the sale price rather than being charged as an extra fee. Skip this one as well
        • Protection for the fabric: A small amount of Scotchgard will go a long way toward protecting your seats, and it is a less expensive alternative than paying the dealership a significant sum of money to have it done for you. Small things, such as parking in the shade and applying a windshield sun protection, may make a significant difference. If you are truly worried about safeguarding your seats, the greatest protection you can get is to invest in seat covers.
        • What are your thoughts on paint protection? Do you believe that the world’s top automobile manufacturers are selling vehicles with inferior paint? Paint protection is a translucent layer composed of urethane that is applied to the surface of a vehicle. If rust appears on a new car’s paint, the paint should be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. Simply request car wax the next time you take your vehicle to the car wash.
        • Rustproofing and undercoating are two important considerations. Your vehicle’s undercarriage, like its paint, will perform admirably in practically every type of bad weather without the need to incur this pricey expense. The majority of newer automobiles are constructed of galvanized steel, which significantly minimizes the likelihood of rust.
        • Etching of the vehicle identifying number: They will attempt to sell it to you as an additional safeguard against the possibility of your automobile being stolen and resold in the future. However, what they won’t tell you is that you can get it done for considerably less money by taking it to an auto shop (or doing it yourself at home) rather than doing it yourself.

        The Bottom Line

If you are unsure about a particular cost, you should inquire. A truthful seller will be able to clearly and effectively explain why a fee is required in the first place. A car is already a huge financial commitment, and you don’t want to waste your money on extras that you don’t require.

        Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How much are car dealer fees?

Fees vary depending on the dealer and state restrictions, and it is up to you to decide which ones you will take. They are normally in the range of a few hundred to several thousand dollars in addition to the car’s purchase price.

How do you avoid car dealer fees?

The most effective method of avoiding dealer fees is to be aware of the various expenses you may encounter before even setting foot in a dealership. It is important to understand which expenses are negotiable so that you may avoid paying needless fees and keeping your overall cost as low as possible.

A Comparisn of Dealership Paint Protection

If you’ve already purchased or are in the midst of purchasing a new automobile, you’re probably aware that dealers will attempt to upsell you on a variety of optional extras, ranging from rust-proofing to so-called ″paint protection packages.″ The issue is, are any of these additional services worth the money spent on them?A paint protection plan from a dealership is one that you should avoid purchasing if possible.

What is a Dealership Paint Protection Package?

Paint protection packages from dealerships are typically little more than a glorified wax treatment on your car’s paintwork. They just coat the paint with a sealer and call it a day. While applying a paint sealant to your automobile is not the worst thing you can do for it, it is not something that you should rely on a dealership to perform for you, and it is certainly less expensive to do it yourself.Furthermore, a polymer paint sealant will only provide protection for your vehicle for a few months at the most.So why are they charging such a high amount for something that you could easily accomplish yourself? While you are typically charged for a guarantee against paint chips and scratches, keep in mind that these dealership warranties can only be used to repair damage that has already happened.

The preventative approach is preferred since it avoids the need to repair damage to your car in the first place.

        Ceramic Coatings, Lifelong Protection

Ceramic coatings, in contrast to paint sealants and waxes, develop a permanent connection with the surface of your car’s paint.Ceramic coatings provide a far more permanent protective layer that can survive UV rays and other environmental risks to a greater extent than other types of coatings available. In addition, they are hydrophobic, which means that dirt and debris are less likely to adhere to them and that they are simpler to clean as a result. The trade-off for this long-lasting protection is that they are more difficult to apply, therefore it’s better to leave it to the professionals to do it.Here’s a look at the main distinctions between a ceramic coating applied by a professional detailer and your typical dealership paint protection package: Details Matter has years of expertise with ceramic coatings, and we only utilize the highest-quality coatings available on the market today.Ceramic Pro and Opti-Coat are approved by the International Detailing Association, and we are members of the International Detailing Association, so you can expect competent service.

9 Benefits of Leasing a Car

Many consumers are worried about leasing since the benefits of leasing vs purchase are not well understood. After all, why lease a car when you can own one and recoup part of your investment when you trade it in?Leasing can offer a variety of benefits depending on your specific tastes, lifestyle, and financial condition. Here are some of the reasons why leasing a car can be the best option for you, ranging from reduced monthly payments to even more vehicle selections.

What are the benefits of leasing a car?

The concept of leasing is comparable to that of renting an apartment. As the individual leasing the automobile, also known as the lessee, you are responsible for a number of upfront expenses as well as monthly payments in order to use the vehicle, but you do not really own it.Almost every lease agreement contains terms and restrictions that must be followed, and at the conclusion of the agreed-upon period, the vehicle must be returned to the leasing firm. There are various advantages to this sort of agreement, which might result in you getting a better price on leasing.

        1. Lower monthly payments

One of the most significant advantages of leasing an automobile is that the monthly payments are often lower than if you were to secure financing to purchase the car outright.A finance agreement for a car purchase specifies that you will pay the total purchase price of the vehicle over the term of the loan, plus interest.Lease payments, on the other hand, are computed in a somewhat different way.Instead of paying for the whole worth of the vehicle up front, your monthly payments will cover the depreciation of the vehicle (as well as rent and taxes) throughout the course of the lease.Because you’re only financing the depreciation and not the entire purchase price, your monthly payment will often be significantly lower. These savings may be used to either upgrade to a newer, more desirable model that is more in line with your budget or save money each month by paying a less costly monthly vehicle payment.

        2. Less cash required at drive off

Down payments for car purchases can be as high as 20 percent of the vehicle’s purchase price, although leases sometimes need little or no down payment at all.At the time of signing the lease, you’ll normally be required to make the first month’s payment along with taxes, title and registration costs, and sometimes an acquisition charge or other fees, but the total cost is often less than the cash you’d be required to put down on a vehicle purchase loan.

        3. Lower repair costs

Fortunately, because the lease terms are so short, the majority of repairs will be covered by the manufacturer’s bumper-to-bumper guarantee. In some instances, the manufacturer will pay the price of maintenance. When checking your lease agreement, warranty or maintenance agreements, make sure to understand what repairs and maintenance are covered so that you don’t get hit with a surprise car service cost down the road.

        4. You don’t have to worry about reselling it

In the case of a closed-end lease, you simply return the vehicle and go on to the next vehicle in the series.Making an attempt to resale the vehicle is not a problem, and determining the worth of the vehicle at the conclusion of the lease is the job of the leasing company rather than yours. You may still be responsible for additional payments at the conc
