Numerous Houston ZIP codes flooded with underwater homes

    • According to a new research, multiple Houston areas are densely packed with homes with negative equity, but the state of Texas as a whole is in far better position than the rest of the country. According to a Zillow analysis issued this week, 25.4 percent of homeowners in the United States have negative equity in their houses. According to the survey, another 18 percent of homeowners are unlikely to have enough equity to sell their existing residences. According to Zillow, homeowners who purchased their houses during the height of the housing bubble have seen their property values decline by 18.7 percent since 2007. Some cities, such as Houston, have experienced a rise in the value of their homes over the last several years. The real estate market in the Bayou City looks to be faring significantly better than in other sections of the country and the state as a whole. According to Zillow, 19 percent of Harris County homeowners are underwater on their mortgages, with a further 7 percent overdue on their mortgage payments. Browse the database to find your neighborhood Both of these statistics are far lower than the national average, but things are not all rosy in Houston. Houston areas north and south of Beltway 8 have among of the highest percentages of negative equity in the whole region, according to a recent Zillow research. Among ZIP codes, such as 77010 and 77073, have some of the nation’s highest percentages of underwater mortgages, according to the Federal Housing Administration. Almost all of the ZIP codes located inside the 610 Loop are significantly lower than the Harris County average. The only two exceptions were in the vicinity of Reliant Stadium in downtown Houston. According to Stan Humphries, Chief Economist of Zillow, equity is a significant aspect in the real estate market since strong equity will assist homeowners in relocating to new residences. Because of this mobility, the housing market may be able to recoup some of the ground that was lost during the housing boom. When it comes to negative equity, the reverse is true. ″Taking a look at the effective negative equity rate might explain why recent, healthy drops in the number of underwater borrowers haven’t yet translated into more properties for sale,″ Humphries explained. Because growing property values are continuing to accumulate equity to the point where more homeowners are genuinely able to sell, the only solution is patience.
