What is HondaLink? A Deep Dive on Honda’s Car Control App

  • When you are getting into your automobile, especially on a cold morning, you want to be sure that it is ready to be driven. Being late and having to spend a few additional minutes is not the best situation. Fortunately, with all of the new technology that is being introduced into automobiles these days, there is a method to determine the exact temperature of your vehicle before you ever leave your house. In the process of incorporating new technology and features into its vehicles, Honda never wavers in its commitment to its core principles. Hondalink, the company’s most recent addition, sends critical information about a driver’s vehicle to their smartphones via a convenient app. One of our favorite elements of the system is the Key by Amazon in-car delivery service, which we use on a regular basis. Instead of delivering your items to your doorway, where they might be stolen, the HondaLink system unlocks your vehicle to allow the delivery driver to store the packages safely in your trunk, and then locks your vehicle when access is no longer required. It should be noted that this technology is only available in 50 American cities and their surrounding areas, and that drivers must be Amazon Prime subscribers in order to use it. The range function is a lifesaver on lengthy road journeys, regardless of whether your Honda is powered by gasoline, electricity, or a combination of the two. The HondaLink app assists you in locating the nearest petrol station or electric vehicle charging station, as well as providing driving instructions if necessary. If you have a smartphone and are driving a model such as the Clarity, you can also use it to pre-set the temperature control system so that your seat is neither freezing or scorching hot when you get into the car after parking it outdoors for several hours. Included among the numerous safety and security features that can be controlled through the app are: remote engine start, lock and unlock doors, automatic collision notification, recall notification, service appointments, roadside assistance, emergency call, speed alerts, security alarm alerts, and a stolen vehicle locator.
  • Some of the infotainment functions that may be controlled through the app include: navigation
  • parking reminders
  • voice-guided navigation
  • hands-free calling
  • phonebook access
  • music streaming
  • and access to certain third-party apps.

To make HondaLink work, you’ll need to do a few actions. To begin, consider the following:

  1. Install the Hondalink mobile application on your smartphone
  2. When you get inside your car, connect your phone to the Honda Infotainment system through Bluetooth.
  3. By using the app, you may automatically couple your smartphone with your computer through Bluetooth. Your phone will be able to access and handle all of the previously listed functionalities when your car and phone have been securely paired.

Hondalink and its broad set of capabilities are available in a number of different configurations. Some of the features are included in the standard membership fees and do not require any further payment. If you want to include some of the more complex services, such as crash warnings and roadside assistance, the additional expenses will amount to around $89 each year.It is required that you use the Remote plan in order to start, lock, or unlock your vehicle remotely.

That membership will cost you around $110 per year, but it will also allow you to locate your vehicle more quickly, whether it has been stolen or is simply parked in a crowded parking garage. After that, there is the Concierge plan, which is priced at $260 per year and includes a personal concierge for you to call whenever you want. The majority of drivers opt to forego the additional features and prices.

It may not be beneficial to you unless you are certain that you will require the additional features.HondaLink has been on the market for some years, despite the fact that people are better familiar with the products of its competitors.HondaLink’s complete subscription services come at a somewhat greater cost than the basic subscription services. However, because of the increased security, user-friendly system, and cutting-edge technology, the price may be justified.

Works most of the time

Finally, an update for iPhone X has been released!Problems with early adopters I’m aware of this, lol. It’s a solid app that, for the most part, functions well. The problem I’m having is with the input I’m getting from the automobile.

There is a long delay between updates, assuming the app changes the car’s status at all.In the example above, when I remote start the car, it will sometimes indicate that it has been started and how long it has remained to run, but at other times it will simply display a thinking circle and not update the information.Additionally, the remaining run time does not contain real-time updates (or a timer), thus you must refresh the screen in order for the time to be updated correctly.

Final desire: I wish the program would notify you how many times you may increase the remote start time limit.Instead, if you go over the allotted time limit, you will receive an error message. As for the super-short 10min run duration, Honda should reconsider; you can’t heat or cool a car so quickly.Either expand the time or at the very least allow consumers to pick their own run time.If I had to pick a winner, I’d say that the transmit to car instructions feature has worked flawlessly 9 times out of 10.It happened once where it indicated it sent but never showed up on the car’s dashboard.

Piece of junk app!

What a complete waste of time and resources! The membership fee was paid to be able to use the app as a remote control.Having the option of starting my vehicle from a distance was something I really needed during these hot days.I intended to employ this technology in the future to pre-cool the vehicle in the summer by remotely starting its engine.

Instead, I received a pointless program that causes my iPhone to crash every time I attempt to do a function within the app.All it does is turn off my iPhone, and I have to manually turn it back on afterwards. However, this is not the most difficult portion.

In my experience, the app is completely ineffective. My subscription was not recognized by the system. My point is that I’m checking in using my Honda account credentials and then trying to add my vehicle by entering the VIN number, but nothing happens!Nothing except a blank screen. At the top of the page, it displays my car; however, it informs me that all of my memberships have expired.Every field is empty, as if there is no link between my car and the computer system.

I contacted Honda customer service and was assured that they would look into my situation and identify the problem before getting back to me.It’s been a few days since the incident occurred, and nothing has changed. The technical department is still working on my issue, according to the message I receive every time I phone.

The applications on my other vehicles, which are from other manufacturers, operate perfectly and their customer service is excellent, but Honda’s do not.I was quite disappointed!By the way, the car is a 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite, and it is in excellent condition, and everyone in my family enjoys driving it.Honda should pay more attention to the difficulties that have arisen with their software, in my opinion.

Good functionality but is laggy

Edit: The app has vastly improved in recent months. It does not crash on a regular basis.I can get into my car and start it, as well as perform other things, without the app shutting or freezing my phone. You did an excellent job of getting things fixed!

The original comment was as follows: The program does all of the tasks that I require of it!However, there is a problem with it being sluggish. The other day, CarPlay wouldn’t operate on my phone since the Honda app kept launching on my phone and causing my phone to freeze.

Due to the fact that the Honda app has started up at odd times and attempted to connect to my car while my car was nowhere to be found, I have had to submit this review three times. That’s when things start to go wrong, since the screen depicts a phone with dots pointing to a car at that point. That’s when the app stalls, and it caused my phone to stop completely, resulting in a forced restart. And I’m using a brand new 12 pro max, so I’m confident that it’s not my phone. There were no issues prior to installing the Honda application. There would be no issues if the program just ran more smoothly and didn’t freeze.

18 My automobile is a Honda Accord touring. If it is required as a reference Thank you for taking the time to contact me.If you are still experiencing difficulties with the application, please contact us at 888-528-7876.

How does Honda Remote Starter Work?

A remote starter is a gadget that is operated by radio signals. While you are still a significant distance away from your car, such as at your house, workplace, or parking lot, it is programmed to reach out to your vehicle and start the engine. It was the 1980s when the first 2-way remote start systems were launched, decades before computers took over the control of automobile systems. It is now simpler than ever to incorporate features such vehicle lock and unlock, climate control, trunk release, and other similar functions on a long range remote thanks to the transition from keyed ignition to keyless ignition.

The addition of a car starting capability to a keyless entry remote is a logical step.Push button start, for example, does not require the mechanical components that are required by a keyless ignition system. This makes it easier for sensors to direct the action of the robot.

In a similar vein, the temperature controls on several Honda vehicles have been computerized.Remote automobile starts have gotten more complex as a result of this development.During our hot summer days, you may use the cabin to cool down or heat it up if you’ve traveled to more northern climates.

Should You Get an After Market Starter?

A remote starter must have the capability of bypassing the anti-theft mechanisms in your vehicle. This means that a factory remote starter, which may be obtained via your Honda dealer is always recommended. Because of the potential for damage to Honda vehicles, the manufacturer strongly discourages the use of aftermarket remote start devices.

Will the Remote Starter Adjust the Temperature?

Your remote starter may either cool or heat the cabin, depending on the make, model, and year of your vehicle. In certain situations, starting your vehicle will automatically turn on your air conditioning or heating, presuming that the temperature in the car is lower than the desired setting. Some Honda remote starts will automatically engage the HVAC system, raising or lowering the vehicle’s temperature to 72 degrees, depending on the model.

How Long Does the Car Run with a Honda Remote Starter?

The Honda will be able to run for a total of ten minutes. You have the option to prolong it by another 10 minutes if you desire.

How is the Battery Protected During a Remote Start?

  • The engine and climate control systems, as well as the security system, are functioning in order to safeguard the battery. The lights and other accessories, on the other hand, are turned off in order to save any additional strain on the battery. Tips for Using the Honda Remote Start Never start your automobile in a cramped place where there is little airflow.
  • If you’re starting your car in a garage, make sure the door is open to allow for enough air.
  • If the car is covered with a tarp or a cover, do not use a remote starting to prevent a fire.
  • When utilizing the remote starting, be sure there are no combustible items in the vicinity of your vehicle. Oil, grease, and chemicals are examples of such substances.

Where is Information on Your Specific Remote Starter?

If you have a certain remote starter, the most probable source of information is the owner’s handbook for that particular remote starting. To their credit, they are currently available online through your dealer or brand’s website. If you want to know anything, you shouldn’t have to pay anything!
