How to (apparently easily) intercept Fedex packages

Recent discoveries have led me to believe that Fedex in Canada has a few weaknesses. As soon as I took it up with them, they promised to look into it and get back to me with an explanation of what had transpired. As a result, since it’s been a month and I haven’t heard back from the ultimate manager I spoke with (Simon), I have to assume that either the issue wasn’t important enough to warrant further investigation or, more concerning, that Fedex is a flawed delivery service that no one at the company wants to admit is a problem.

    1. I’ve included some suggestions towards the end of this article that Fedex might want to consider in order to attempt and rectify the situation.
    2. I believe it would make them a pretty cool service, to put it mildly.
    3. But first, let’s talk about how to intercept Fedex deliveries, which appears to be very simple.
    4. (NB: I am not advising that anybody engage in mail fraud, which is a federal offense punishable by imprisonment in virtually all states.
    5. This article might be thought of in the same manner as ‘How to train a dragon.’

Our cast of characters in this scenario

I’m the one that sent the message.Brian: The One Who Will Receive the Gift (and contractor to Acme Corp.).a third party (if you are reading this as a lesson, you may place yourself in John’s position).

    1. Acme Corporation: This is the corporation that deals with software and sends it to Brian.
    2. Similarly to Acme Corporation, SomeSoft Corp.
    3. is a corporation that operates in the same industry.
    4. (NB: All identities have been altered in this narrative in order to protect the innocent.) (With the exception of my.)

    What happened

For Brian’s home office in a major Canadian city, he required a laptop with source code to be delivered to him in person.I prepped the laptop (which, happily, included encrypting it) and dropped it off to my local Fedex location, which I had previously recommended to others.Brian’s name was printed on both sides of the package, and the address was written quite plainly on the outside.

    1. Once I had completed the form and confirmed it, I was notified that it will be delivered by Fedex Ground the next day.
    2. Later, after several days had passed, the item had still not arrived when a mystery letter was delivered to Brian (the intended receiver) by a John (an unknown third party) who lived just a few doors down the street.
    3. John stated that he had received, maybe, Brian’s shipment and that he had returned it to Fedex.
    4. Brian called me on the phone.
    5. Fedex was contacted via phone.
    6. Apparently, Fedex attempted delivery at the incorrect location and failed, leaving an unintelligible Fedex delivery note on John’s door.

Having received a Fedex delivery himself, John phoned Fedex and informed them that he would not be able to accept the box.He requested that Fedex alter the recipient’s name (from Brian) to John and change the shipping address to his place of employment; Fedex agreed. No one bothered to double-check who John was or that he was not the same person as Brian. It just so happened that the work firm in question was SomeSoft Corp., which happened to be in the same industry as Acme Corp.Fedex didn’t care to check with me or verify any additional data, instead merely following the instructions of John, who had no connection to the waybill number in question.

It was delivered to SomeSoft Corporation, who accepted it (despite the fact that it was plainly marked for a non-employee) and handed it over to John, who was delighted with it.When John discovered that the item had been plainly labelled for his neighbour, he became alarmed and returned it to Fedex through the reception area of SomeSoft Corp.Brian did eventually receive the item, however it took the following steps: ″Oh yeah, we screwed up,″ stated a befuddled customer service agent after receiving a phone call.- A further phone call from me, after having spoken with John, to inquire as to the whereabouts of the package, to which I was given the response ″we’re not completely sure.″ In addition to the Fedex call in which I assumed they were phoning Brian (I was completely baffled), they also stated on that call, again somewhat baffled, that either I had put the wrong address or my local Fedex facility had filled it in incorrectly (not the case) – A conversation with a manager, who, while I don’t believe really comprehended the seriousness of the situation, did manage to get the shipment delivered a week after it was meant to arrive.

So what did Fedex do wrong

1.They left an illegible ″failed to deliver″ slip at the wrong address, which was later discovered.2.

    1. They made it possible for anybody to change the name of the receiver of a monitored shipment by calling the company.
    2. 2.
    3. They enabled anyone to change the address of the receiver through phone in a monitored shipment without notifying me or validating the identity of the person on the other end of the phone line.
    4. 3.
    5. It took them a week to deliver a product that should have arrived the same day.
    6. 4.

They haven’t bothered to react to my questions about what their internal inquiry has turned up thus far (I have given them a grace period of a month).By chance, John and SomeSoft Corp.would have been less than pleased if Fedex had brought the source code of another firm to their headquarters, even if it had been encrypted.

    So what does this mean?

As a result of this occurrence, Fedex has stated that anybody having a Fedex delivery slip may just contact Fedex, connect with a person, claim to be them, and Fedex will simply update information on a package that specifies it must be signed for by the receiver in order for it to be delivered. And, when you stop to think about it, the entire system is designed to facilitate this.In reality, Fedex does not know the true identity of the recipient; instead, they only know the true identity of the sender and the information provided by the sender about the recipient, which is contained on the waybill and easily obtained from a neighbor or through other social engineering methods.

    1. And, in my experience, Fedex has never contacted the Sender to inform them that the Recipient requires a change of address.
    2. When you consider the fact that corporations such as Amazon send you things, this truly makes sense to you.
    3. When you wish to switch a delivery to a work location, it is not possible to have Amazon validate your address.
    4. However, it makes it exceedingly simple for someone to perpetrate what amounts to mail fraud, and now that this has occurred, I am confident that it occurs on a far more frequent basis than in this particular instance.
    5. I would even venture to assume that, despite the fact that ″correct process″ was not followed, anybody who sounded confident could have done the same thing as John, even if John did it unintentionally.
    6. This implies that Fedex, as well as UPS and other carriers, are all experiencing difficulties.

    A possible solution

I don’t want to be the one who complains about anything without providing a solution.Because, at its core, what I’ve outlined is a straightforward social engineering ruse. The same thing happens when a user enters a basic password on a system that is kept in plain text and then transferred insecurely to a third party.

    1. Once the password has been delivered, I have no way of knowing if it has been received and utilized by someone other than the intended recipient.
    2. If someone has social engineered the recipient party, then I’m in serious trouble, to say the least.
    3. Both of these statements are correct in this instance.
    4. Fedex (as well as UPS) could easily remedy this problem.
    5. Fedex has the luxury of producing waybill numbers and waybills on-site, which is quite convenient.
    6. Simply creating a *non-printed* code and attaching it to each tracking/waybill number is all that Fedex needs to do.

This code can be given to the Sender when the package is dropped off or it can be given to the Sender when the electronic waybill is created. The fact that only Fedex and the Sender would be aware of this information means that the Sender would have no difficulty in providing this information to the Recipient. In the event of a large corporation, this information may simply be created during the preparation of the electronic waybill and delivered to the Recipient automatically. When accessing and altering addresses and information, just ask the representative to verify the unique code, and the likelihood of a social engineering attack is reduced.

    In Conclusion

Fedex’s response is already known to me- We did not follow protocol, and we did not identify the person who would receive the package. The individual has been reprimanded, and this will never happen again throughout our billions of products in the future.- You are incorrect; we can positively identify the recipient because we can ask questions such as phone number and name, which are the types of questions that are extremely difficult to find out about someone.

    1. If we want to have secure parcel delivery, we should simply implement a PIN code system.
    2. It has shown to be successful in other sectors.
    3. In the meantime, Fedex, I’d be interested in seeing how else you plan to address the possibility of this happening again; even your rote response (which is what I expect from your ‘internal investigation’) would be preferable to silence in this situation.
    4. It’s a little difficult to put my faith in you after this, isn’t it?
    5. And what am I supposed to do with a parcel delivery service if I lose faith in them…

    r/FedEx – URGENT – How to intercept/cancel FedEx shipment?

I dropped off a box at a FedEx location on Thursday, January 28th, at 8 p.m.with a label for First Overnight shipment, anticipating delivery to the recipient’s address on Friday, January 29th, by 9:30 a.m.I was expecting delivery on Friday, January 29th, by 9:30 a.m.

    1. Immediately after dropping off the box, I received an email informing me that the package would not be able to be delivered until Monday, February 1st, at 9:45 a.m.
    2. There were no exceptions to the delivery deadline of Friday for this cargo, which was critical for my company’s bottom line.
    3. Due to the fact that the tracking information indicated that the box hadn’t yet left the office, I contacted customer support to ask if they could cancel the shipping and keep the parcel at the office.
    4. They informed me that if they cancelled the order, the box would not be able to be stored at the office and would instead be immediately delivered to the return address, which is not what I desired.
    5. Even though the customer service representative assured me that they will tell the facility to contact me first thing in the morning, I’m concerned that the box will be in transit by the next morning.
    6. In addition, there have been no comments or updates to the tracking information provided by the user.

However, I’m not sure whether I should simply go ahead and cancel the shipment online since I’m concerned that the item will be automatically transported to the return address instead of being kept at the FedEx location where the package was dropped off.Is there a method to cancel or intercept a cargo that hasn’t yet left the plant and have FedEx hold it until the package leaves? What are the best next actions to take to ensure that I can pick up my box first thing in the morning tomorrow?I had intended to just drive it to the recipient’s house in order to assure that it would be delivered by Friday.

    2 Day Shipping (FedEx 2Day)

    • What is the procedure for two-day shipping? Shipments that are scheduled for 2 day delivery will be delivered on the second business day, by a specific time. If your package weighs less than 150 lbs., we may ship it via FedEx 2Day A.M. or FedEx 2Day. If your cargo weighs more than 150 pounds, FedEx 2Day Freight is the best option. To ensure that a package is delivered on the second business day, you must generate a shipping label, pack the shipment, and send it to FedEx before the deadline for drop off. Cutoff timings and hours differ from one area to the next. You must make it until the cutoff time in order to have your shipment delivered the next business day. Check out the business hours of establishments in your area. What is the cost of two-day shipping in dollars? The cost of shipping is determined on the delivery service you pick, the destination, and the size and weight of the goods you are shipping. Please provide us with further information about your shipment so that we can provide you with an accurate quote. What additional shipping choices do I have for two-day delivery? In the event that you want 2 day delivery but do not require it to be delivered by a specified time, pick FedEx Ground for delivering to companies or FedEx Home Delivery for sending to houses.
    • Transit times for places near to you might be as little as one or two days. See our maps of public transportation on the ground. Why does it take three days if I ship using a two-day delivery option instead of one? When you ship with FedEx, the shipping days begin to accrue the day after you hand over your shipment to us at our facility. For example, if you drop off your shipment before the cutoff time on Monday, it will be delivered on Wednesday. Another possibility is that you arrived after the shipment deadline had passed. For example, if you dropped off your box on Monday after the cutoff time, your shipment would be shipped on the next business day. And it was scheduled to be delivered on Thursday. A business must take time to pack your purchase and ship it to you by FedEx if you acquired a product on the internet. If the shop does not deliver your item to us before the cutoff time, there may be a delay. What is the best way to adjust delivery times? For shippers who wish their packages to arrive sooner than the 2 day shipping period stated, you can go into your FedEx account or call 1.800.Go.FedEx 1.800.463.3339 to request a shipping speed adjustment. 2. Alternatively, if your item was not automatically diverted and you do not wish to wait for a reattempted delivery, you can utilize FedEx Delivery Manager® to request that it be rerouted to a nearby FedEx facility or partner retail location.
    3. In order to make the request, you’ll need your tracking number or door tag number on hand.

Why Does FedEx Take So Long?

There’s nothing more exciting than receiving the tracking information on a delivery that you’ve placed an order for on the internet. You understand that this indicates that the box has begun its journey to you, that it won’t be long until your package arrives at your door, and that you will be able to follow and monitor the progress of your package as it moves towards you at every stage of the route.Unfortunately, as so many others have discovered, not all tracking updates are going to be good news for them.

    1. Sometimes tracking information – even from a shipping industry leader like FedEx – will advise you that your product has been delayed, that it was unable to be delivered, or that it will take longer to reach you than you anticipate.
    2. This is common.
    3. If you’ve ever wondered why that happens (and why it seems to happen to you on a regular basis), you’ll want to read the remainder of this comprehensive guide.
    4. Listed here is (nearly) all you need to know about FedEx shipments that seem to take an eternity and a day to arrive at your door.
    5. Let’s get this party started!

Why Does FedEx Take So Long?

In the first place, you should be aware that FedEx isn’t the only company that has been delaying goods left and right lately. Each and every one of the main shipping firms is dealing with difficulties and issues that are causing things to move more slowly, almost assuring that parcels will arrive a bit later than most consumers anticipate them to.FedEx transports millions and millions of items every day as a result of its widespread popularity and the large number of individuals who rely on this shipping firm.

    1. The likelihood of a client experiencing a delay increases significantly as a result of all of this volume.
    2. As a result, FedEx might appear to have a disproportionately high number of delays when compared to other delivery firms at times.

    The FedEx Delivery Process Explained

This is not to imply, by any stretch of the imagination, that FedEx deliveries are not being delayed in any way.Every single day, someone’s FedEx delivery will not arrive on time — if not hundreds (or maybe thousands) of FedEx packages, at the very least one FedEx parcel per day. While part of this may be attributed to the fundamental core reasons of package delays, which we will discuss in greater detail later, some of it can also be attributed to the way the FedEx system is constructed.

    1. When it comes to transferring parcels throughout the country, FedEx truly pioneered a ″hub and spoke″ system that is extraordinarily efficient – and one that is so amazing that most other shipping firms now employ the same sort of system as they do themselves.
    2. A basic summary of how this shipping scheme operates is as follows: Starting with the delivery of packages, a package must be dropped off at a FedEx retail site or picked up by a FedEx employee.
    3. It was these very same items that were ″checked into″ the FedEx system, were assigned a tracking number, and were included into the wider FedEx infrastructure.
    4. From there, the goods are sent to a regional distribution center that is rather centrally positioned in the region.
    5. Almost usually, the shipment will be mixed with other products that will be delivered along a similar path, and it will be relocated to another regional distribution center that is closer to its eventual destination.
    6. This will occur a number of times (anything between once and half a dozen times) until the item is within a reasonable distance of a FedEx distribution center.

The box will then be detached from its ″lot,″ transported by truck to its final destination, and that final destination will almost always be delivered by a local FedEx operation. As you can see, there are several moving elements in this system. At any point along the process, there is the possibility that a box may be lost in the shuffle, that it will be delayed, or that something will go wrong — such as a parcel intended for Hartford, Connecticut being delivered closer to Honolulu, Hawaii. The FedEx Corporation has done an excellent job throughout the years of fine-tuning their system to the point that difficulties like these no longer arise nearly so frequently as they did in the past. However, they retain all of the same characteristics.

Why Does FedEx Take So Long? – 5 Common Issues

Now that we’ve covered the basics of how FedEx Ground works, it’s crucial to go through the five most typical reasons why your shipment will be delayed in the future moving forward.

    FedEx Delayed Packages

Another typical reason for FedEx to delay a delivery is because they themselves determine that the package has to be delayed, either to allow for more scrutiny, investigation, or search by the appropriate authorities.Your package’s chances of being delayed before it can be examined dramatically increase if any form of fluid is seeping from it, if it appears suspect in any way to any FedEx employee, or if it just ″feels weird″ to anybody working at FedEx.If your delivery is delayed as a result of these factors, you will nearly always receive a warning and an alert informing you of the delay – especially if your box has to be opened and physically examined by the appropriate authorities.

    1. Most of the time, these kind of inspections might take anything from a few days to a week or longer.
    2. A notification will appear anywhere in your monitoring information, letting you know exactly what’s going on at any given time.
    3. It’s still a good idea to contact customer support to find out exactly what’s going on with your box before writing it off as a total loss.

    Incorrect Address Information

When it comes to FedEx goods being delayed, incorrect address information may be a major source of frustration.Let there be no doubt about it: the FedEx address database is nearly identical in size to the USPS address database – at least in terms of size in the United States. However, it is not updated as regularly as it should be.

    1. It is possible that new addresses will not be entered into the FedEx system as fast as a package is shipped, and that existing addresses that have changed will not be updated as quickly as they should be.
    2. However, it is possible that wrong address information is simply added to a shipping label for a variety of reasons without being noticed.
    3. Perhaps the shipper was in a rush and accidentally entered the incorrect town, state, or ZIP Code information.
    4. Perhaps the shipping address was put on the label in less-than-legible handwriting, making it difficult for FedEx to determine exactly where the product was meant to be delivered.
    5. Perhaps something completely different occurred, resulting in the wrong mailing address information being provided.
    6. Ultimately, if FedEx does not know where a box is meant to be delivered, they will make every effort to determine where it should be sent.

However, it is virtually always going to take longer than you anticipated to complete the task.

    Severe or Surprise Weather Conditions

Severe or unexpected weather conditions can appear out of nowhere, especially during the busiest shipping season of the year – the Christmas season in the winter – and create a variety of delays across the transportation industry.Rainstorms, as well as thunder and lightning, are unlikely to be enough to cause a FedEx delivery to be delayed beyond its scheduled arrival time. The moment tropical storms, flooding, high winds (including tornadoes and hurricanes), snow and ice are thrown into the mix, the situation becomes entirely different.

    1. Extreme weather conditions such as these are not unusual in the United States, and they can cause considerable delays in the delivery of your FedEx cargo.
    2. These setbacks are usually temporary, lasting no more than a day or two (maybe three days).
    3. This schedule, however, will be significantly influenced by the intensity of the storm….
    4. Depending on how long the weather system that caused these difficulties persists and causes problems in the delivery region, you might be waiting a number of days, a week, or even longer.

Something Went Sideways with a Delivery Vehicle/Facility

If anything goes wrong with a delivery truck or something goes wrong at the facility where the delivery is being made, severe weather may have less of an impact on the delivery delay than other factors.FedEx vans are well-known for being extremely dependable, extremely sturdy, and exceptionally long-lasting.However, they are also man-made pieces of machinery that, like any other vehicle on the open road, have a natural propensity to break down and become compromised over time.

    1. The same may be true of FedEx distribution centers.
    2. Perhaps a FedEx facility is experiencing a manpower shortage and is thus unable to handle as many shipments as they formerly did.
    3. Perhaps there was a leak or a fire at the plant, requiring the facility’s closure for at least a short period of time.
    4. Perhaps there was something wrong with the physical construction of the facility that became affected as well – sometimes as a result of the bad weather we described before – that made these working conditions dangerous.
    5. Finally, everything that goes wrong with FedEx delivery trucks or with the FedEx delivery facility will undoubtedly result in at least a little delay in the arrival of your shipment.

    Package Was Missing Important Documentation

It is not enough for FedEx shipments to simply be dispatched with the recipient’s address plastered on top of the box. When a commercial invoice is issued, it allows the Federal Express organization to realize that the shipment has been properly postage paid and is therefore acceptable for transportation via FedEx delivery service. On top of that, the commercial invoice certifies that the box includes the item that the buyer was expecting, that the transaction was completed correctly, and that the weight of the package is displayed on the exterior of the packaging material as well.

    1. That information about weight is quite significant.
    2. FedEx trucks driving across the country’s interstate system will be required to stop at ″weigh stations″ on a regular basis to ensure that they are safe to be on the roads and highways of the United States.
    3. This information is important in assisting FedEx in determining whether or not specific parcels may be added to a cargo or whether they must be removed entirely from the shipment.
    4. If this information is not accessible or is missing, FedEx will be required to validate the data on their own initiative.
    5. That will almost certainly result in at least a minor delay, generally lasting a day or two.

Tips for Speeding Up Your FedEx Packages

You will be able to do a number of things to considerably speed up the FedEx delivery process and (hopefully) ensure that your box will not be delayed at any point along the way, thanks to some simple steps.

    Confirm Your Shipping Info

Before you begin, double-check that all of your shipping information – including the delivery address and the return address – is correct, complete, and legible. Take the time to complete this procedure on your own, and you won’t have to worry about someone from FedEx having to go through the process for you, which might cause your shipment to be delayed in transit.
