What Are the Ford F-150 Max Trailer Tow Package Requirements?
- Before we go into the procedures, let’s talk about the specifications for the maximum trailer tow package. Ford is now providing this maximum trailer towing option in conjunction with a number of different engines. Here’s a rundown of the list: A 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, a 5.0-liter V8, a 3.5-liter PowerBoost full-hybrid V6, a 3.0-liter diesel engine, and a Heavy-Duty Payload Package (627) on XL grade are all available options.
Consequently, the first thing to note is that if your engine does not match any of the ones listed above, you will immediately recognize that your F-150 does not have the maximum trailer towing package.
How to Tell If Ford F-150 Has the Max Trailer Tow Package?
I said in the last section that you were eligible to receive the maximum trailer towing package. In addition, if you think you could be qualified, here are the top 6 quickest ways to find out.
Method 1: Window Sticker
If you have the window sticker (Monroney label) accessible to you, you may readily determine what type of trailer towing package your F-150 is equipped with without having to look at the vehicle.Obviously, if you’re looking at the maximum trailer towing package (53C), you’ll see that it’s listed in the ″optional equipment/other″ portion of the window sticker. In my opinion, this is the most straightforward method of determining if your F-150 is equipped with the maximum towing package or not.
Method 2: Upgraded Rear Bumper
It is possible to inspect the rear bumper of your Ford F-150.If it is equipped with the maximum trailer towing package, it will not come with the normal front bumper.Instead, it will be outfitted with an updated trailer hitch receiver and a more powerful engine.
The enhanced rear bumper is a one-of-a-kind item since Ford only provides it as part of the F-150 max trailer tow package, which is not available alone. As a result, how do you determine if it’s an updated model or the regular model? You can look at the safety chain loops on the trailer hitch receiver to see if they are damaged. If the chain loops are angled (as indicated in the image below), your truck is equipped with the improved rear bumper system.
Method 3: Trailer Hitch Receiver Ratings
In addition to the ratings label on the trailer hitch receiver, which you are aware of, If your vehicle is equipped with the MTTP, the maximum gross trailer weight rating will be in excess of 12000 pounds. So if you know the maximum towing capacity of the trailer hitch receiver, you can figure it out quite quickly.
Method 4: Heavy-Duty Payload Package
The Heavy-Duty Payload Package (HDPP) raises the maximum towing capability of your Ford F-150 to 7850 pounds while also increasing its payload and towing capacity. If your vehicle is equipped with this payload package, it is almost certain that it is also equipped with the Max Trailer Tow Package.
Method 5: Upgraded Rear Axle
If you have the maximum trailer towing package installed on your vehicle, the rear axle ratio of your F-150 will be 3.55 (L9) with an electronic-locking differential, according to Ford.It is 3.73:1 if you have the Heavy-Duty Payload Package (627), and it is 3.73:1 if you do not (L6).This information may be found on a window sticker that is attached to the car.
Even if you don’t have the window sticker for any reason, you can locate it on the Truck Safety Compliance Certification Label, which may be found on the door latch post pillar or on the left front door lock of the truck.
Method 6: 36 Gallons Tank Capacity
To determine whether or not you have the maximum trailer towing package, compare the capacity of your Ford F-150’s gasoline tank to the maximum trailer towing package. If the tank has a capacity of 36 gallons, you can be confident that the vehicle is towing the maximum trailer tow package possible. However, there are a few outliers.
The 36-gallon tank is not only available with the maximum trailer towing option, but is also available separately. This implies that you may have the expanded fuel tank with any other trailer package you want to purchase. In the case of the Ford Fusion with the 3.5L PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6 engine, this strategy will not work because Ford does not provide the 36-gallon tank capacity with this engine configuration, even when equipped with the maximum trailer towing package.
Is Ford F-150 Max Trailer Tow Package Worth It?
The maximum trailer towing package contains a slew of features. And I am confident that you are well-versed in their contents after reading the sections I have mentioned above. If you decide to purchase upgrades independently later on, you will almost certainly wind up spending more money than you would have spent on the bundle in the first place.
Even just that alone makes it worthwhile.Nonetheless, if you are still seeking for reasons to choose the Max Tow Package, the first thing to consider is the towing capability of the vehicle. It has the potential to dramatically improve capacity.Depending on the model you select, you can expect to gain approximately 800 pounds in total weight.Furthermore, the package contains a sufficient braking system for the trailer that you will be towing with your vehicle. That will provide you greater control and improve the handling of your vehicle when hauling a heavy load.
Finally, a significant modification will be made to the fuel tank.In addition to providing peace of mind while not towing anything, the 36-gallon gasoline tank ensures that you will not have to worry about refilling when on extended road trips or road trips in general.
2018 Ford F-150 Towing Capacities
Its maximum towing capacity was 13,200 pounds in 2018, if you had the correct towing equipment, engine, axle ratio, and so on.This is a mind-blowing figure for an F-150, and it was achieved with the proper equipment. The maximum capacity of certain models was as low as 4,900 pounds, which is an enormous difference, to put it mildly (or not so mildly). The towing capacity statistics were influenced by a variety of factors, which I discussed in detail in this post.
- I hope you find the information to be of assistance.
- I made every effort to include all of the most significant towing information for the 2018 F150s that I could find, but be sure to read the owner’s handbook to ensure that you are aware of all of Ford’s towing guidelines.
- Overview of the 2018 Ford F-150 Towing Capability Capacity for towing in general: In terms of towing capability, the 2018 Ford F-150s varied from 4,900 to 13,200 lbs.
for all models, which covers all engine choices, cab layouts, and axle ratios, among other things.Overall capacity for both conventional and 5th wheel specifications combined is represented by this number.3.3L PFDI (V6): According to the charts, the 3.3L engines had some of the lowest ratings out of all of the engine options, with a range of 4,900-7,700 pounds between them.5.0L (V8): If you had the 5.0L engine installed in your 2018 F-150, you would have had one of the higher capacity ranges available, second only to the EcoBoost engines, and you might anticipate to be able to tow between 8,200 and 11,600 pounds on average.A third significant challenger for power was the 3.0L turbo diesel (V6) engine, which was available as an option for this model year F-150s and had a total capacity range of between 7,200 and 11,400 pounds overall. Please keep in mind that some of the lower ratings for the 3.0L engine came from the 5th wheel chart and appeared to be affected for models equipped with either the shift-on-the-fly automatic transmission or the 2 speed (automatic) 4WD transmission, whereas the same models received significantly higher ratings on the conventional chart.
This engine, the 2.7L GTDI (V6), was another lower-powered engine when compared to the other engines, but it had higher overall stats than the 3.3L engine, which surprised me, therefore it was included in the lineup. The capacity range for vehicles equipped with the 2.7L engine was between 7,500 and 9,100 pounds, which is fairly excellent for a truck of this size and power.Towing capacity of the 3.5L (V6) EcoBoost engine was the highest of any of the other engines tested, despite the fact that several versions had towing capacities on the low end of the range. You might anticipate your F-150’s towing capability to range between 6,000 and 13,200 pounds if you had the 3.5L EcoBoost engine installed in it.
Interestingly, the Limited and Raptor variants, as well as cars with the 133-inch wheelbase, appeared to be affected by the engine’s extremely low performance statistics on the charts.Conventional towing parameters ranged from 5,000 pounds to 13,200 pounds for conventional towing.5th Wheel: The towing capacity of a fifth wheel ranged from 4,900 to 12,100 pounds.GCWR: The specifications for the GCWR ranged from 9,500 to 19,400 pounds.
- To obtain a ″control group,″ Ford will often make weight estimates for all of the towing specifications provided in the charts.
- This is done in order to obtain a ″control group.″ Specifically for the 2018 F150, Ford assumes there are two persons in the truck, both of whom weigh 150 pounds apiece (300 lbs.
- combined weight total).
- It is also vital to notice that there is no cargo in the vehicle, and that the truck is equipped with all of the required and standard safety equipment.
Tow charts for 2018 show that any weight added to the trailer as a result of additional passengers, cargo, or aftermarket items must be removed from the trailer weights given on the tow charts.
2018 Ford F-150 Towing Charts.
Here are the towing charts for the 2018 Ford F-150s that I compiled from Ford’s 2018 Towing Guide, and they are accurate and have been provided straight by the manufacturer. It is possible to find two separate charts that offer conventional towing numbers and 5th wheel towing statistics. For the most part, consumers choose traditional charts, which are often equipped with a tow receiver that is fastened to the truck’s frame from the back underneath of the car.Even though it’s less frequent, the 5th wheel hitch is still extensively used.
- It’ll install in the bed of a pickup truck’s bed, exactly in the middle, and will be attached to the truck’s frame.

How To Read The 2018 F-150 Charts.
In order to view your genuine numbers, you needed to know precisely what cab configuration you had, along with the right axle ratio and engine. This made it much more difficult to ″plug in″ your data and see your true numbers on the 2018 Ford F150 tow charts. The following brief section explains how to read the charts, where specific components are found on the charts, and how to utilize those elements to get your maximum trailer weight rating. The charts I used in the examples below are not for the 2018 Ford F-150, therefore do not use the information in those charts to determine the value of your truck’s performance.
- These are provided just for the purpose of illustration and to demonstrate how to read the charts.
- The charts displayed above are valid for the year 2018.
- Cabin configurations include: When you look at the 2018 charts, the first thing you notice are the three enormous columns at the top of the table, each of which is labeled with the cab type or cab configuration, which you will want knowledge of.
These are represented by three primary columns, which are denoted by the red boxes in the following illustration.I discuss the three various cab types a bit further down in this post, and I’ve included a photograph that depicts what the three kinds look like and how they differ from one another.Four-wheel drive versus two-wheel drive: Directly below the cab style columns, you will find two separate columns within the bigger cab style columns that are labeled as: 4×2 and 4×4, which represent two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, respectively.A little variation in capacity exists between 2WD and 4WD versions when comparing their capacities. This is the most essential aspect when it comes to determining the trailer numbers for your 2018 F-150.The engine options are displayed on the left-hand side of the tables, with a full row for each engine choice, as seen in the illustration below.
Axle Ratio: If we go to the right of where the engines are mentioned, we can see that the axle ratios are provided, each in its own row within the engine row, which is helpful. There are several axle ratio options available for each engine, and there is a very critical piece of information that must be entered into the charts in order to obtain an exact value.
Axle Ratios For The 2018 F-150’s:
Now that you’ve realized how critical it is to enter a correct axle ratio value into the towing tables, you’re probably wondering how you’ll find out what axle ratio you have.Despite the fact that Ford does not have the information on the 2018 vehicles displayed anywhere in plain sight, it is simple to figure out what you have and is actually just a two-step process.Look along the door jamb (on the lock mechanism side) of your driver’s-side door when opening it, and you will see a certification label that contains a plethora of useful information. You’ll see an area called ″AXLE″ at the bottom of this sticker, as well as a code of some type underneath that area.
- The following is an example of a Ford axle code: You’ll want to jot down the code and then compare it to the chart I’ve included in this section.
- The axle ratio that was used for your truck will be displayed on the screen.
- Axle Codes for the 2018 Ford F-150 Additionally, if your sticker is missing, you may reach under your vehicle and search around the rear differential case to see if there is a tag that will say the axle ratio as well as the gear ratio.
Tow Packages & Options:
When it came to towing packages, the 2018 F150s had several that were really necessary, especially if you wanted to get those insanely high capacity figures.I was able to locate this table, which details some of the features that were included as standard equipment with these vehicles, as well as some of the optional towing packages that were available. Please feel free to peruse the table, as there were some unique alternatives available for this particular model year vehicle that I would not generally see available. For the 2018 Ford F150, below is a chart that shows the required and optional towing equipment.
What About The Wheelbase?
Wheelbase measures were referenced from time to time in the tow tables, and all that is meant by that is the distance between the front and rear axles, measured from the center of one wheel to the other.
What Engine Do I Have?
In order to determine what your maximum trailer weight capacity is for your 2018 F-150, one of the most critical pieces of information to know is the type of engine that is installed in the vehicle. If you are unsure about the engine that is installed in your vehicle, simply follow these few steps to identify what you have. The first step is to identify your vehicle identification number (VIN), which may be found in a variety of places, the most convenient of which are on your registration card or on the dashboard on the driver’s side of the vehicle while looking into it from the outside. It is necessary to plug in the VIN number into a VIN decoder, which can be available in a variety of locations online, but I like to use this website since it offers all of the information I want in an easy to read manner.
- Simply enter your vehicle identification number (VIN) into the box on the website and click the search symbol to the right, and the website will spit out a slew of helpful information about your truck.
- It is the engine that we are searching for though, and you will find it if you scroll down just a little bit farther and it will be listed in the column titled ″Engine Model.″ This will tell you what engine was installed in your vehicle when it was first driven off the assembly line at the manufacturer.
It is critical to understand what sort of cab design you have on your truck; in fact, knowing this information is critical when determining your maximum trailer weight restriction from the charts.A screenshot I took from the internet displays several manufacturer’s cab types, as well as the names of each one.See below for more information.Ford’s names can be found on the third row down, as well as the matching photographs above, which show what the three cab types look like in their respective colors.

Important Safety Notes:
It was in the owner’s handbook that I discovered a lot of useful information about towing in general, and I urge that you check through your 2018 manual to see what restrictions and possibilities your vehicle has.Below are a few screenshots of some of the additional towing information I discovered in the owner’s manual, most of which is warning weight restriction information, but which is still essential to know. Please keep in mind that the material contained in the manuals is far from exhaustive, so be sure to do your own research before relying on what I’ve written here as a starting point.Definition of the maximum loaded trailer weight for the 2018 Ford F150 Definition of the maximum loaded trailer weight for the 2018 Ford F150 Warning about higher altitude weight for the 2018 Ford F150 Definition of the maximum loaded trailer weight for the 2018 Ford F150
- Here are some resources to get you started. I utilized two sites to acquire all of my knowledge on the 2018 Ford F150s: the 2018 F-150 owner’s handbook and Ford’s 2018 Towing Guide. The towing guide provided all of the nice tow charts that I photographed and posted to this page, and the owner’s manual not only contained all of the other useful towing information, but it also contained tow charts of its own, albeit not as nicely organized and presented as the ones in the towing guide. The 2018 Ford F-150 Owner’s Manual, the 2018 Ford Towing Guide, and the 2018 Ford F-150 Brochure are all available online.

″Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500,″ says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. ″He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340. ″Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing. ″Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life,″ adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts. ″I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry. ″My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today. ″Being based on Detroit,″ says Rall, ″I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit’s Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.

Max Trailer Tow Package on 2018 F150
Calcor1 had first posted this quote.Thank you for providing the information.: ″When fitted with 20-inch wheels, the SuperCrew can tow the maximum GCWR/max tow rating. This variant will also have maximum springs, a steering gear, and an improved stabilizer bar, among other features ″…..According to the Ford website, this is listed near the bottom of the Max Trailer Towing information page.
- When I questioned the dealer if the maximum spring would lift the back end at all and also what adjustments would be made to the steering gear, they admitted that they didn’t know and simply said, ″Nothing.″ Was attempting to determine whether to maintain or remove this option when I came across this.
- My dealer has informed me that my truck is already planned to go into production within the next few days, and that I will be unable to make any adjustments at this time.
- Well, that’s life.
I’m still curious about the ″steering gear,″ and I’d like to know what it is that causes it to malfunction.I had to relocate one of my trailers the other day.The first time I’ve used it since I bought it last month was when I linked up the power cord.It was only a little boat trailer, after all. When I connected the trailer to the 4 pin connector, I was a little startled that it recognized a trailer in the dashboard. My previous vehicle (a 2011 Ford F150) only seemed to detect trailers that were connected to the bigger connection.
Anyway, after I had the system up and running, I noticed a few of problems. The steering wheel looked to be different, and the gas pedal appeared to be different as well.I should have taken this around the block simply to get a better look at it.Unfortunately, I just connected it up to move it around to the side of the house, so it’s possible that I’m simply daydreaming.
The most shocking thing was that the trailers I had previously connected with the 4 pin were never recognized by my other vehicle.Hey, it’s getting close to Christmas.Perhaps I drank a little too much eggnog.
What Is Included in the Ford F-150 Max Trailer Tow Package?
The Ford F-150 has a proven track record of being powered by powerful engines that have a long towing range and excellent fuel economy.Because the 2019 Ford F-150 is available with a wider range of engine options than any previous F-150, it can tow anything from 5,000 to 13,200 pounds.According to U.S.News and World Report, the F-150’s maximum towing capacity places it at the top of the full-size pickup class.
- The 2019 Ram 1500, on the other hand, has a towing capacity of 12,750 pounds.
- The 2019 GMC Sierra, weighing in at 12,500 pounds, is right behind it.
- Of course, not all Ford F-150s are equipped with this towing capability.
As PickupTrucks.com says, you’ll need to choose the correct cab, engine, and package for your needs. The same is true when it comes to enhancing the towing capacity of the Limited and Raptors.Check out what it takes to customize the F-150 so that it can tow the most weight and what’s included in the Max Trailer Tow Package to see what you need to know.
Configuring for the F-150’s max towing capacity
Those looking for the most towing capability should choose for the basic rear-wheel-drive XL model SuperCrew, which has a 6.5-foot bed, 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, 20-inch tires, and the Max Trailer Tow Package. The EcoBoost engine, which generates 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. An integrated trailer brake controller, an upgraded front stabilizer bar, and a 4-pin/7-pin wiring harness are included in the Max Trailer Tow Package, as is a Class IV receiver hitch, a 3.55 electronically locking rear differential, a 36-gallon fuel tank, auxiliary transmission and engine oil coolers, and an upgraded front stabilizer bar.Overall, a Ford F-150 with the maximum towing capacity is priced at $43,515.
- In the event that you choose four-wheel drive, the towing capacity is reduced to 12,900 pounds.
- A 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, 2WD, and a 6.5-foot bed are standard on the SuperCab, which has a maximum towing capability of 12,000 pounds.
- A normal cab with 2WD, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost, and an 8-foot bed will have a towing capacity of 12,100 pounds, according to the manufacturer.
Keep in mind that upgrading to a higher trim level will result in a reduction in the truck’s towing capacity. As a result of the additional features, these trim levels weigh more. The additional weight reduces the amount of weight that may be used for the tongue weight or payload of a trailer. The 5.0-liter V8 engine in a King Ranch trim level Ford F-150 weighs around 600 pounds more than the XL we’ve detailed. The upper-trim vehicle can tow 1,700 pounds less and has 70 lb-ft less torque than the lower-trim pickup. Also keep in mind that traditional towing with a weight-distribution hitch is the only way to achieve the maximum towing capacity.
This type of attachment is required because the F-150’s maximum towing capability is only 5,000 pounds when not using it.
The max tow ratings for the F-150 Limited and Raptor
When it comes to towing capacity, both the Limited and Raptor are significantly higher than those of the rest of the F-150 series.450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque are generated by the high-output 3.5-liter Ecoboost turbocharged V6, which is available only in these two trim levels.Despite the fact that they both have a strong engine in common, the Limited and Raptor have significantly different maximum towing capacity due to the Raptor’s significantly higher weight of at least 500 pounds. Both versions have a plethora of features.
- To be consistent with other F-150 higher grades, the greater weight of optional equipment is reflected in a reduced towing rating.
- The Limited has a maximum towing capability of 11,100 pounds and is only available in the SuperCrew configuration with a 5.5-foot bed, according to Ford.
- The capacity is reduced to 9,400 pounds when the 4WD option is selected.
The Trailer Tow Package is required if you want to take use of the Limited’s maximum towing capacity. All of the features of the Max Trailer Tow Package are included with this package with the exception of the trailer brake controller, large fuel tank, and front stabilizer bar.Expect to pay $69,725 for the Limited’s 2WD variant with the highest towing capability available. The 4WD variant is priced at $73,150.The Raptor’s towing capacity is 8,000 pounds when equipped with the SuperCrew configuration. The SuperCab has a weight of 6,000 pounds.
The Raptor comes equipped with a Trailer Tow Package as standard equipment. The SuperCrew cab type is priced at $54,540, while the SuperCab is priced at $57,435 for the SuperCrew.Because of the wide variety of engines and trim levels available on the F-150, it takes a little deciphering to figure out what Ford’s maximum towing capacity is.Nonetheless, you now understand what it takes to obtain the best trailering capacity available in this class from a full-size vehicle of this kind.
How To Tell If F150 Has Max Tow Package?
There’s a good reason why the Ford F-150 Full Pickup Size truck is the best-selling car in America: it’s a great truck. It may function both as a workhorse and as a vehicle for family transportation.Work trucks, luxury trucks, and even an off-road raptor are among the many models available in the company’s extensive model lineup.A Ford truck is a very competent machine in and of itself, but a Ford truck that has been outfitted with a correctly installed tow package may significantly improve the overall performance of the vehicle.
- In the sections that follow, I’ll explain how to identify a tow package, and more particularly, how to determine whether a Ford F-150 has a maximum tow package.
What is a Tow Package?
- A tow package is a comprehensive collection of all of the vehicle parts required to tow a load of your choosing safely and reliably, all in one place. Simply simply, a tow package increases the weight rating of the towing vehicle, allowing it to haul a greater amount of weight with more reliability. It is customary to think of the tow package as nothing more than a trailer hitch, but the reality is that it is far more complicated. Much more is involved in putting together a tow package to guarantee that you can securely transport your weight without jeopardizing your safety or the condition of your vehicle. A tow package for your vehicle may have the following features in addition to a hitch platform: a more powerful engine
- a more durable gearbox and brakes
- a more robust electrical, wiring, and cooling system to withstand big loads
- Upgraded suspension system (e.g., improved shock absorbers, etc.)
- improved steering system.
- The gearing in the rear-end (differential) has been improved to make towing simpler.
However, it’s crucial to remember that not all of these features will be included in a tow package given by the manufacturer of your car. Some products may only possess a minor fraction of the characteristics listed above. The characteristics differ from one manufacturer to the next, as well as depending on the sort of tow package that has been factory-installed on your truck.
F150 Tow Packages
Ford’s F150 vehicles are available with two different trailer towing packages: the Basic Trailer Tow Package and the Max Trailer Tow Package. The following items are included in the Basic Trailer Tow Package:
Basic Tow Package Features
- Class IV trailer hitch
- standard 4/7-pin wiring configuration
- Every engine, with the exception of the basic 3.3L V6, has an engine cooler.
- Front stabilizer bar that is significantly heavier
- There is also an auxiliary gearbox oil cooler (available only on certain versions)
- Lighting on the tailgate makes it simpler to hitch in the dark.
- Backup Assist (which makes reversing with a trailer connected considerably easier)
- Pro-trailer Backup Assist
- A Smart Trailer Tow Connector (which monitors the electrical systems of the trailers to which it is connected)
When it comes to towing weight, the F150 with the Basic Tow Package (Factory-installed) outperforms a truck that has just been equipped with a hitch and wiring.
Max Tow Package
The Max Tow Package raises the truck’s towing capabilities to the highest level in its class. All of the mechanical and technological enhancements that come with a standard towing package are included in this upgraded towing package, and it also adds some additional essential features on top of those changes. You might also be interested in: How to identify whether your Expedition has the Heavy Duty Tow Package?
How To Check If F150 Has Max Tow Package
- With the addition of an electronic-locking rear axle with a 3.55 gear ratio, the most major alteration has occurred. If the maximum towing package is combined with the Heavy-Duty Package, the gear ratio is increased to 3.73. The fuel tank is also larger than that of the original F150 trucks. The standard models are supplied with either a 23-gallon or a 26-gallon gasoline tank, but the maximum tow package includes a massive 36-gallon fuel tank
- an upgraded rear bumper
- and Integrated Trailer Brake Control.
With the addition of an electronic-locking rear axle with a 3.55 gear ratio, the most important modification is the transmission. When the maximum towing package is combined with the Heavy-Duty Package, the gear ratio is increased to 3.73.The fuel tank is also larger than that of the original F150 truck. It comes with a 23-gallon or a 26-gallon gasoline tank, but the maximum tow package includes a monstrous 36-gallon fuel tank; an upgraded rear bumper; and Integrated Trailer Brake Control.
Reasons to go for a Max Tow Package
1. The Upgraded Electronic Rear Axle
Power will be transferred evenly to both rear wheels as a result of this innovation, which will increase grip on slick conditions. This will make the difference between your trailer moving and not moving on slick roads that are slick with mud or snow. The 3.55 or 3.73 axle ratio is intended to provide greater fuel efficiency while also increasing torque for towing purposes, respectively.
2. The Larger Fuel Tank
The 36-gallon gasoline tank with the max tow package, which has an increased fuel tank capacity of over 50%, is important since fuel consumption increases while towing heavier loads, and the larger fuel tank means that trips at the gas station are less frequent.
3. Integrated Trailer Brake Control (TBC)
The TBC contributes to the smooth and efficient braking when a trailer is mounted. When the brakes on the tow vehicle are applied, the Trailer Brake Control automatically applies the trailer brakes. To manage the trailer’s electronic brakes, which are applied independently of the towing vehicle, a manual sliding control lever with a plus-minus gain adjust button is provided at the center console. The adjust buttons govern how much or how little power the TBC provides to your trailer brakes, and the results can be viewed using the dashboard that is included into the TBC itself.
- Stopping a trailer is made considerably simpler and safer because to the system’s simplicity and intuitiveness.
- In addition to increasing safety, if you lose electrical connection to the trailer at any point, you’ll be presented with a warning message on the dashboard, as well as an audible alarm sound.
- The standard Ford F150 has a towing capacity of around 5000 lbs, which is not particularly impressive.
Combined with its numerous upgrades, the Max Tow Package is capable of hauling a whopping 13,200 pounds, which is an astounding achievement. The towing capability of the Ford F150 with four-wheel drive is reduced to around 12,900 pounds when equipped with four-wheel drive.
A valuable upgrade over the feature-rich but not-so-basic Basic Trailer Tow Package, the Max Tow Package includes a 4-pin/7-pin wiring harness, Class IV receiver hitch, 3.55 / 3.73 electronically locking rear differential, a 36-gallon fuel tank, auxiliary transmission and engine oil coolers, an integrated trailer brake control (TBC), and an upgraded front stabilizer bar.Generally speaking, it is an essential addition to any Ford F150 that is frequently used for towing, and it is especially important if the basic model or any of the other towing kits do not match your towing requirements (Visited 11,476 times, 72 visits today)
