How do you make homemade Taco Seasoning?

It is ridiculously simple to make! Combine all of the ingredients in a small mixing bowl until thoroughly combined. Pour the mixture into a tightly-sealed jar or canister and store it in a cold, dark area until you’re ready to use it. With this huge batch spice in your pantry, you won’t have to go to the shop for those tiny packets of seasoning ever again.

Recipe Notes:

  • It is possible to shake your seasoning mix together in the jar if you are using a bigger container, such as a mason jar. Mine was too tightly packed to allow for shaking
  • This Taco Seasoning has a medium level of heat, which I would describe as mild. Add 2 teaspoons of red chili flakes or use a hotter chili powder (such as cayenne) to give the dish a kick of heat.
  • You may make your Taco Seasoning smokier by using chipotle chili powder for part or all of the chili powder in the recipe.
  • If you dislike cumin, you may omit it.
  • If you are trying to stay away from salt, I did add salt this time, but you may omit it if you like.

How much taco seasoning is in a packet?

One ounce/two tablespoons of seasoning mix is average for a packet of seasoning mix. Simply use 2 tablespoons of our Taco Seasoning in place of one box of seasoning in any recipe that calls for seasoning.
