    Passport Agencies

    • Appointments are available at our passport agencies and centers for two types of services: Emergency Life-or-Death Service and Urgent Travel Service. You must contact us in order to schedule one of these appointments. Follow the instructions on each agency and center’s website to complete the application process. What is the nature of the changes to our appointment policy? On Wednesday, July 21, at 10 p.m. Eastern Time, we temporarily stopped the online booking system for Urgent Travel Service in order to ensure that our extremely limited appointments are allocated to applicants who require them for urgent travel. In order to schedule a new appointment or make changes to an existing appointment, you must contact us by phone. This change solely affects appointments at the 26 passport agencies and centers operated by the United States Department of State. The appointment booking procedure at passport acceptance facilities, which include post offices, libraries, and other local government agencies, will not be affected by this change. What is your motivation for making this change? It is our intention to make this adjustment in order to address the issue of third parties reserving appointments online using automated programs, or bots, and then selling these appointments to clients who have an urgent travel requirement. Appointment booking services are not linked with us, and we do not charge a fee to schedule an appointment with one of our representatives. A third party scheduled all available appointments within minutes of the appointments being made accessible online, preventing many of you from scheduling last-minute appointments and making it difficult to tell if your appointment was authentic or fraudulent. You will be better able to schedule an appointment if you call us because of the following factors: Our contact center personnel will issue you with a one-of-a-kind confirmation number, which will be verified by our staff on the day of your scheduled appointment. Unless you have received a confirmation email from us, you will be turned away on the day of your appointment. The unique confirmation information will allow us to verify that your appointment is authentic and that you are not a victim of a scam.
    • Third-party providers will no longer be able to arrange appointments under the new procedure.
    • To cancel or alter your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible. In order to avoid double bookings, a new customer will be allocated to your scheduled appointment. In order to accommodate the increased call volume, we have increased the number of customer support representatives on duty and modified our phone menus to assist simplify the experience and decrease wait times.
    • What is the best way to cancel my appointment?
    • You can cancel your appointment by simply forwarding the appointment confirmation e-mail you got from the National Passport Information Center to [email protected] with the subject line ″Cancel My Appointment″ in the body of the e-mail.
    • There will be no response to your e-mail if you include any queries, requests for status updates, or requests to modify or postpone your appointment with your message.
    • We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure that appointments are given to those who are in genuine need of them.
