Ultimate Hot Wheels Collectors Guide for Beginners // 2016 Edition

Hello there, dear reader.Definitely the definitive guide on collecting Hot Wheels die-cast models, especially if you live in the present day.My introduction will be brief; you can find all you need on Wikipedia; instead, I will highlight a few major years that are essential to collectors, such as 1968, the year when the Hot Wheels brand was founded by a corporation known as Mattel, among other things. The company was quickly successful. They manufactured 16 castings in their first year, which are now known as The Original Sweet Sixteen, and it cost them a fortune to produce them.

Beatnick Bandit, Deora, Ford J Car, Hot Heap, Python, Silhouette, Custom Barracuda, Custom Camaro, Custom Corvette, Custom Cougar, Custom El Dorado, Custom Firebird, Custom Fleetside, Custom Mustang, Custom Thunderbird, and Custom Volkswagen were among the models available in 1968.Models from 1968 to 1977 are also referred to as Redlines, due to the fact that their wheels had a red pinstripe on the side of them. Now and again, Redlines make a reappearance in limited edition versions — which are incredibly uncommon and expensive in any case.Hot Wheels also has something called the Red Line Club, which is an annual premium membership that grants members access to a variety of unique offers and features.

The Treasure Hunt years, which began in 1995 and continue to this day, are the next major phase in Hot Wheels history.Yes, this is the section on which you should concentrate your efforts. As a result, there are around 250 models (365 in 2017) available for purchase as Mainlines today (basic series). The twist is that some of the mainline vehicles are more difficult to locate due to the fact that they were constructed in less quantities and are referred to as Treasure Hunts. It gets a little more difficult after that; in addition to the basic models and treasure hunts, there are a number of Super Treasure Hunt automobiles that are much more uncommon and that collectors are primarily interested in.So, where do you go to locate one?

    1. HUNT FOR TREASURE Treasure Hunts are normally simple to detect, as they all have a flame in a circle emblem placed on a door or a spoiler, but they may also be buried behind a colorful piece of grafitti art or a stripy sticker.
    2. Additionally, this emblem appears on the blister package that contains the die-cast model.
    3. HUNT FOR SUPER TREASURE The Super Treasure Hunt is far more intriguing than the regular treasure hunt.
    • They are significantly more difficult to come by due to the fact that their manufacturing numbers are even lower.
    • If you come across one, you must purchase it right away.
    • Normal Mainlines are represented by them, but they have a nicer paintjob, more stripes or flames, or artwork, and the Real Riders are represented by them as well (wheels that are rubber rather than plastic and better rims).
    • These tires are sometimes referred to as Redlines.
    • On their bodies, they also have the letter TH someplace on them, which is how you can tell which one it is.
    • THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MAINLINE AND SPECIAL SERIES After doing some study on this subject, I’ve come to the conclusion that Mainlines are more valuable to collectors than other types of railroads.
    • This is primarily due to the Treasure Hunts.
    • There are no hard to find casts in this special series, which makes it more expensive in the store.
    • Special Series (limited segment, like BMW or Japanese Historics or The Beatles, for example) are more expensive in the store, but you can get them almost anywhere because there are no hard to find casts in this special series.
    1. The fact that you have a collection of those is undoubtedly cool, and most of the time they are more attractive than the mainline models, but you don’t get the pleasure of going on a Treasure Hunt in pursuit of a hidden jewel.
    2. ZAMAC, MISTAKES, AND VARIATIONS These are the characteristics that I appreciate, particularly ZAMAC, a name that sounds good on its own; I would name a dog after it, but what does it mean?
    3. It is an abbreviation for ″Zinc Aluminum MAgnesium and Copper″ or ″Zinc Aluminum Metal Alloy Casting,″ depending on who you ask.
    4. Occasionally, a Hot Wheels automobile is produced without a livery and marketed as such, in which case it would be considered a ZAMAC Edition.

In its most basic form, an error model is a model that has something strange on it due to some circumstance.Occasionally, particular wheel sets would run out at a manufacturer, and they would be replaced with a different set to keep things interesting. It is possible that the designs on the front and back wheels are different.

In addition, the paint job may be different, and certain colors may have been lost. There are also variants of a single model to consider.During the course of a single year, the same cast might appear in a variety of colors. In a nutshell, some collectors are extremely enthusiastic about all three characteristics. Some people prefer to collect ZAMACs, while others look for mistakes, and a few people just collect variations of the same model.THE VERY FIRST EDITIONS Casting (tooling) is the process of creating the structural design for each Hot Wheels vehicle.

    1. The year that you can see on the bottom of the automobile is the year in which the cast was first put into service.
    2. Every year, new models are created, and it’s a satisfying feeling to own the very first version of the cast, especially after so many years after the show’s premiere.
    3. The name of the casting is normally not changed, however it may change on occasion, in which case the new name would be used going forward.
    1. Occasionally, castings are taken out of service for a period of time and then brought back into service with updated tooling.
    2. CUSTOMS What is is is what is.
    3. Some collectors love customizing their Hot Wheels models, such as by changing the wheels, repainting them, applying new decals, or altering the body of the vehicle.
    4. The possibilities are unlimited in your imagination.
    • CASE LETTERING FOR HOT WHEELS Each year, Mattel offers new vehicles, and each year’s cases and boxes are labeled with a new code.
    • Every case contains 72 Hot Wheels, and each of those cases has around 16 variants, which are lettered in ascending sequence from A (A, B, C, D,…) and are numbered from 1 to 72.
    • As an illustration, the Datsun 240Z will only be found in Case A, and the Acura NSX will only be found in Case J as a Super Treasure Hunt model.

The backs of the cards have case letters that are mirrored. If you know which case is currently on sale at your local store, you’ll be able to tell which automobiles you should keep an eye out for when shopping. In other words, if you stick to the Hot Wheels Case Reports, which you can find, for example, here. Please keep in mind that this method will not work on international cards since case lettering will not be offered.

WHAT INFORMATION SHOULD YOU COLLECT?Hot Wheels is a toy that is both entertaining and educational.Collectors that specialize on a certain topic are respected by the community.Collections such as collecting only muscle cars, only vehicles from the 1970s or 1980s, only new castings, only blue cars, only BMWs, 2002 casts of the BMW 2002 model, and so on are examples. As a result, the lesson from this is straightforward: gather everything you like.

    • Over time, the factors of age, demand, and condition will increase the value of your collection.
    • A good tip would be to preserve them unopened in their original packaging, since the Hot Wheels Card will add value to the model as well as ensure that it is in perfect shape.
    • Remember, the Hot Wheels brand was established in 1968, and in 2018, they will celebrate their 50th anniversary, which will undoubtedly result in some amazing Collector’s items.

    1. There are just a handful specialized websites on the Internet that you can find using a search engine.
    2. You might also look at eBay, which has a plethora of excellent deals.
    3. The only issue is the high expense of shipping to the United States.
    4. Now, go forth and demonstrate that you are a strong, independent man or woman by constructing a suitable display stand for your collection.

Should You Keep Your Hot Wheels In The Box? (Or Open Them?)

*Some of the links in this post may be affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, we receive a commission on qualifying purchases made via our links. You will most likely keep all of your Hot Wheels cars remaining in their original packaging if you are a Hot Wheels collector.Other individuals will open up their Hot Wheels cars so that they may display them more easily if they are not a Hot Wheels collector (or even play with them).Which one do you think is the best?

Should you take your Hot Wheels out of the box or keep them in the box?If you are simply concerned with resale value, you should always keep your Hot Wheels in their original packaging, since this will attract a greater price when they are sold in the future. But if you prefer putting together collections that look better when displayed and that you (or others) could even play with, then opening the box is the ideal option for you. When I was younger, I heard that sealed Hot Wheels would ultimately be worth a lot of money, so I took some of my hard-earned money (from chores) and went to Walmart, where I purchased some of the ″most valuable″ (in my opinion) Hot Wheels that were available.

I knew I wouldn’t be allowed to play with them or open them because I wanted to preserve them in the package so I could sell them when I was older and make a lot of money from them! These Hot Wheels, on the other hand, have been unopened in my garage for more than two decades and are only worth a fraction of what I paid for them at Walmart more than two decades ago.I would have been much better off opening them and having a good time playing with them and crashing them on the track than I would have been keeping them closed up on a shelf for twenty years doing absolutely nothing. Not to say that collectible Hot Wheels cannot or will not be valuable; however, simply purchasing a few random cars from the bin at your local Walmart, Target, or other retailer is unlikely to make you wealthy; therefore, keeping those Hot Wheels in their original packaging will not have a significant impact on the value of those cars.At the end of the day, you must determine if the Hot Wheels you are purchasing (or already own) are collectibles now or are likely to become such in the future.Assuming they are, you will want to retain them in the box in order to protect their value and increase your chances of reselling them for a much higher price in the future.

    1. However, if you are simply purchasing inexpensive Hot Wheels from a retail store, it is doubtful that they will ever be highly valuable.
    2. As a result, you should open them up so that you, your children, and others may enjoy handling and playing with the vehicles.
    3. In order to view the current collection of collector Hot Wheels or to purchase huge mystery boxes of unopened Hot Wheels, please visit the following website..

Does Opening Hot Wheels Devalue Them?

Making the option between opening your Hot Wheels and leaving them in the packaging can be a difficult one at times, because no one can predict the future, and there is no way to tell if, for example, a specific Hot Wheels car will be worth significantly more in the future. One thing is for certain, though, and that is that If a Hot Wheels car is now collectable or has the potential to become collectible in the future, it will be worth more if it is still in its original packaging when it is sold. Therefore, by opening your Hot Wheels, you are depreciating them either immediately (if they are already valuable) or at a later point in time (if they become collectible).Hot Wheels are not always highly collectible, however, due to the large number of each model produced and the fact that the company continues to release new models year after year.As a result, cars that never truly become collectible will retain their value regardless of whether they are still in their original packaging.

It is one of the factors that contribute to Hot Wheels being collectable that the earlier models (or special editions) are more difficult to come by.This pushes up the price of the models as well as the desire of collectors to acquire them.An older Hot Wheels vehicle (say, a red line) that was still in its original container would be worth far more than the same model that had been opened and played with since the demand for it would be exceedingly strong due to the fact that a sealed one would be incredibly difficult to come by.However, as I previously stated, because so many Hot Wheels vehicles have been maintained in their original packaging by collectors over the last few decades, those that are still in their original packaging aren’t particularly unusual, and therefore aren’t particularly expensive.

Are Opened Hot Wheels Worth Anything?

Some individuals may believe that their opened Hot Wheels are useless now that it has been shown that Hot Wheels that are still in their packaging or box are more valuable if they ever become collectable. However, while this is occasionally true, it is not always the case.Even if they have been opened and played with, collectible Hot Wheels (particularly those from the 1960s and 1970s) retain a large amount of their value.Finding Hot Wheels from that era that are still in their original packaging is exceedingly difficult, thus Hot Wheels that have been opened have a lot of value.Because your Hot Wheels have been opened, it doesn’t necessarily follow that you should toss them out or that they have no collector value anymore.

Even if your Hot Wheels are recent (and not from the red lines) and have been opened, they may still be worth a lot of money depending on which model it is, how many have been created, and whether or not it is an error vehicle (which is rare). The most valuable Hot Wheels are frequently those from the late 1960s and early 1970s, although many from the 1980s, 1990s, and even 2000s are also worth a significant sum.A number of the most valuable Hot Wheels that have been opened have been those that have nostalgic value (such as those that were modeled after a movie or television show vehicle), were produced in limited quantities (such as those that were only given away to friends and family of Hot Wheels employees), or have some sort of error. If none of your Hot Wheels satisfy any of those criteria, but they are from the 1970s or 1980s, they are likely still worth $10-$20 depending on which model they are and how well they are preserved in their present state.

The fact that a Hot Wheels car is open does not imply that it is useless!

r/HotWheels – How are you storing your carded Hot Wheels?

Level 2The costs associated with the Hot Cases annoy me.For $12, you can have a plastic container, and another $20 for delivery. There is an excessive amount of money.level 2Hot cases are also excellent containers for storing abandoned vehicles.level 2I’d want to utilize these, but they’re too pricey for me at the moment imp The first level was achieved by the purchase of a container from Walmart and the stacking of the items within it.

Whatever the size of your collection, I’ve already completed one and am half way through another one.level 1Sterilite 26 1/2″L16″W 6 5/8″H 26 1/2″L16″W 6 5/8″H I used to be able to purchase these at Walmart, but I haven’t been able to find them lately. It was necessary to downsize for the time being.Sterilite 32qt hinged lid on the first level.

The major lines and vehicle culture standing will be accommodated.Lowe’s Medium Cardboard Boxes are at the first level. In addition, I have a tiny bulletin board with several flat pegs on which I hang my supers and favorite items to exhibit.I’m using Hot Wheel cases since they’re free and can store 72 Hot Wheels.I’m also utilizing Comic short boxes because they can accommodate 100 carded Hot Wheels. In addition, I’m experimenting with a Ziplock weather protection shallow 24.5 litre bin.

    1. I then use a flat thumb tack to attach them to the wall.
    2. To create the first layer, I take a Sterile plastic container from Walmart and put the cars on their sides for the first layer, followed by horizontal layers on top of that.
    3. A ton of material may be crammed into a tub.
    • If I had to guess, it would be about 250.
    • level 1Flatback pushpin on the wall You can overlap the cards on the wall with the automobile on display and hang it from the peg hook on the flatback pushpin on the wall

r/HotWheels – Hot Wheels: To open or not to open?

When it comes to Matchbox cars, I have a propensity to open nearly all of the ones I purchase. Why, I’m not sure, considering that I normally purchase one of each model.Typically, when it comes to Hot Wheels, I purchase two of any model I want: one to crack and one to keep carded. With the $THs I don’t open, I buy as many as I can (the most I’ve ever received from a single Super is two) in order to be able to resale duplicates.Aside from that, I stockpile THs and retain two of them for myself, despite the fact that I’ve never cracked a hunt (despite the fact that 90 percent of my hunts are current ″hidden″ ones).

I want to sell my excess on eBay in tiny batches of four or five to make the most of my limited space.I do, however, require additional situations, such as the previously stated Creative Options.Thread Organizers, in my opinion, are the finest method to store opened 1/64ths of an inch.If you don’t go to Kday events and carry home the tiny 36-ct cases that you go through, you may go to the post office and pick up some huge priority mail boxes, the big square ones, which are a good price for storing carded HWs and MBXs.

They can contain around 42 automobiles per box, according to my calculations. The Mattel boxes, on the other hand, are my favorites.

How To Neatly Store Hot Wheels Tracks

You’ll learn how to organize Hot Wheels tracks and vehicles in a child’s bedroom so that they’re easily accessible, no matter how small the area is.Happy Quick Win Friday, everyone!Today is the day of the week when you will receive a very quick and easy organizing project that will take no more than 30 minutes and will have a significant impact.Today, we’re going to take care of those Hot Wheels racing circuits and piles of vehicles that have accumulated in your child’s room. When it comes to cars and tracks, you may have experimented with specialised organizers in the past, but if your home is anything like mine, such containers were doomed to failure.

My kid was not interested in sorting each car into its own slot, nor was he interested in sorting track components according to their size, as I suggested. Those specialized containers were quickly donated because they were never utilized and because all of the automobiles were being pushed into a corner as a result of their placement. If you’re nodding your head right now, I’ve got a better alternative for you and your kids that you’ll like. This is the quickest and most convenient method to store Hot Wheels race circuits and vehicles, and it is even quicker and more convenient for your child to clean up after themselves once playing is finished.

And, in my opinion, anything that encourages children to tidy their own rooms is a positive.

Easy Hack For Storing Hot Wheels Tracks And Cars

All you need are two 41-quart underbed storage bins to complete this project.I purchased these bins from Target and took use of their drive-up service, which eliminated the need to enter the store and attempt to cram them into a shopping cart.I mean, it’s really simple, right? One container will be used for the rails, while another will be used for the automobiles. You may take it a step further and place little containers inside to separate the mess by category, but keep in mind that the purpose is to teach children to clean up after themselves.

Make things as simple as possible. It is possible to slip the containers straight below your child’s bed because of the lids, which keep them closed and dust-free.We’d been storing Nerf weapons and light sabers in these underbed bins as well until I built a weapon wall out of pegboards a few months ago. They’re ideal for any item that’s longer than 12 inches in length and difficult to keep organized.

What you need to know about the Black Friday toy deals

    • When it comes to shopping for toys for your child, or even adult collectors and aficionados, Black Friday is the best time of year — especially this year.
    • As is customary on Black Friday, shoppers may score hundreds of toys at deeply discounted rates, making holiday shopping a snap if done online.
    • However, global supply chain limitations may make toys more difficult to come by this year, posing a distinct challenge for shoppers.

According to the BBC, the situation in the United Kingdom may be aggravated by the trucking complications brought by Brexit. This year’s Black Friday will take place on November 26th, which is a Friday. In the United States, it’s already a hectic time of year, thanks in large part to Thanksgiving celebrations, but customers in both the United States and the United Kingdom should take heed if they want to make their Christmas and holiday shopping as stress-free as possible.

According to the data website SpendMeNot, toys are among the most popular goods purchased during Black Friday shopping events. The site observed that Walmart in the United States was popular with Disney’s Frozen and Ryan’s World toys and games, which is unsurprising because the phrase encompasses a large variety of products. The Osmo and Lego toys, games, and sets were extremely popular on Black Friday in the United Kingdom last year. The former is a relatively new line of instructional toys for youngsters, but the latter should come as no surprise to anyone who knows anything about education. We anticipate that these and other brands will continue to offer significant discounts during this year’s Black Friday sales season.

    1. We’ve only come across a handful of discounts thus far, which we’ve listed below.
    2. As a temporary measure before the truly exceptional offers begin to flow in, we can direct you to the best online merchants in the United States and the United Kingdom, where you may scout out the toys you’ll want to buy when they’re on sale later.
    3. Here’s where you should look:

When will the best Black Friday toy deals start in 2021?

    • Toy bargains from a variety of stores went up much before of the formal Black Friday date last year, which was a first for us.
    • This isn’t unusual, and we fully expect that to be the case in 2021, with offers potentially going online a week or two earlier of the original scheduled launch date.
    • Consumers may see toy bargains put up unusually early in order to help them get a jump on the competition when it comes to Christmas shopping this year.

Without a doubt, we’ll be updating the site and our social media platforms as and when Black Friday toy offers go online, ensuring that you don’t miss out on any of the best discounts if you keep an eye out for them.

Where are the best places to find Black Friday toy deals in 2021?

    • When it comes to Black Friday, there will be a broad variety of merchants offering a vast variety of toys, games, and playsets to choose from.
    • In the United States, the most prominent of them are likely to be Amazon and Walmart, as well as Best Buy, Target, and brand retailers such as Playmobil’s own website, among others.
    • In the United Kingdom, companies such as Argos, Smyths Toys, and The Entertainer are known for offering excellent Black Friday bargains.

Last year, for example, Argos offered massive half-price reductions on popular Nintendo, Minecraft, and Disney toys, amongst other things.

What Black Friday toy deals do we expect to see in 2021?

    • Our expectations are that the Osmo brand will continue to grow in popularity as it makes its way into the hands of more young learners this year, as it did last year.
    • Legendary brands such as Lego, Playmobil, Star Wars, Disney, and others in a similar vein aren’t going away anytime soon.
    • Once again, Black Friday 2021 will be an excellent opportunity to get your hands on toys from well-known companies that are suitable for children of all ages.

What should I look for when buying a toy on Black Friday?

    • If only because there are so many merchants all selling the same things at different rates, it might be difficult for the typical shopper to study toys on Black Friday.
    • It might be difficult to determine which merchants are providing a certain item at the lowest possible price.
    • Google Shopping is an excellent search engine for filtering through bargains on any particular toy if you’re entirely bewildered in the process.

You may use this tool to compare prices and check which merchants are offering the greatest discounts, as well as availability, shipping costs, and other information. However, you may want to purchase toys sooner rather than later this year because the shipping difficulties that are hurting other markets may also have an influence on toy supply.According to the BBC, the situation in the United Kingdom may be much worse because of Brexit-related truck issues, which may make it more difficult to move toys from ports to store shelves.
