The AT4 Package Is Everything You Imagined

  • Due to the fact that GMC and Chevrolet are both General Motors subsidiary, the two companies must come up with innovative methods to differentiate themselves from the same products that they all provide to customers.
  • It’s tough enough for a car manufacturer to identify itself from competitors, much alone from its own varied brands, let alone from the competition.
  • However, with the introduction of the AT4 line on the Sierra in 2019, GMC has done exactly that; a package that provides a compelling new reason to visit your local GMC shop.
  1. The AT4 package is available on a number of GMC models, and it distinguishes the GMC portfolio in terms of design and other elements.
  2. In the case of the Sierra, for example, it enhances the already aggressive appearance of the vehicle.
  3. The AT4 package is something that GMC can be proud of.
  4. To have a better grasp of what you will be getting when you visit local GMC dealership, let’s take a look at the AT4 models one at a time.

Sierra AT4

To distinguish the Sierra from its almost identical twin, the Chevrolet Silverado, and compete with the Ford F-150 Raptor, GMC added the off-road-oriented AT4 option to its arsenal. The AT4 option is designed to provide the Sierra with the luxury of the Denali package, as well as the off-road capability necessary for having fun on the trails. At its core, the AT4 package is an unusual blend of Bear Grylls and Liliane Henriette Charlotte Bettencourt, beef jerky and caviar, Liberace and Motorhead, and a few more surprises. You get the picture; it’s opulent, imposing, and imposing.

  • Let’s speak about the Sierra AT4’s off-road skills to whet your appetite for what’s to come.
  • It is crucial to examine important variables when considering an off-road beast, like its engine’s power, ground clearance, and tire selections.
  • These considerations are especially important if you find yourself trying to climb a steep vertical on some lost track towards the summit of a mountain.
  • Unfortunately, as fate would have it, the Sierra AT4 solves each and every one of these problems, which comes as no surprise.
  1. When ordering the AT4, GMC includes a factory-installed 2-inch suspension raise package, which provides the Sierra with exceptional ground clearance.
  2. Because of the optional Duramax 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel V8, your Sierra will have more than enough power to make those mountains crawl.
  3. Also available are Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires in 18-inch and 20-inch sizes, as well as 18-inch Mud-Terrain Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires in 20-inch and 18-inch sizes.
  4. Not to mention the luxury aspects of the AT4 package; after all, if you’re going to be taking your Sierra on an off-road adventure, you may as well make it a pleasant one, right?
  5. We’ll start with the Rancho shock absorbers, which are known for making the journey to the trails as smooth as possible.

Most manufacturers are fine with simply throwing a pair of shock absorbers into a car; after all, it’s not like many customers inquire about the specific sort of shock absorbers that a vehicle they are considering purchasing has.The majority of people don’t even give it a second thought.Yet in addition to their importance in boosting the safety and stability of your vehicle, shock absorbers are also important in enhancing the comfort of your drive since they lower the amount of vibrations, resulting in an exceptionally smooth and silky ride. There are several more distinguishing features that add to the overall opulence of the interior.

  • Included in this package are standard 10-way power-adjustable bucket seats with a center console; and yes, they are perforated, heated, and made from leather.
  • Embroidered AT4 badging on the front head restraints and a Jet Black upholstery with Kalahari highlights distinguishes this vehicle from the competition.

Yukon AT4

In fact, the only thing more threatening than the Yukon AT4 is the Yukon XL AT4; with an overall length of little more than 225 inches, it is a formidable opponent and a real head-turner in its own right. The Yukon’s Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension goes a step farther than the Sierra’s ground clearance, which we discussed briefly earlier in this article. This readily available option allows you to effortlessly elevate the Yukon by up to two inches, so increasing the already generous ground clearance of the vehicle. And you will not experience any reduction in comfort as a result of this; the ride will continue to be very smooth.

  • Like the Sierra, the Yukon AT4 has been engineered to perform well in challenging driving circumstances.
  • The two-speed transfer case that is offered allows drivers to simply choose between four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive.
  • There are also other options, such as two-wheel drive high, automated four-wheel drive, four-wheel drive high, and four-wheel drive low, as well as various combinations.
  • There is also a Traction Selection system, which allows you to choose between different traction combinations as necessary.
  1. Sport mode, Off-Road mode, and Tow/Haul mode are some of the traction options available to you.
  2. The Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control systems, as well as Magnetic Ride Control, which is a standard sophisticated suspension system that scans the road and provides a more controlled and smooth ride, are other very useful performance features.
  3. GMC obviously didn’t hold back when it came to creating the cabin of the Yukon AT4.
  4. With a dash of luxury and class, the inside is every bit as tough as the outside of this vehicle.
  5. AT4 badging, dark brushed metal accents, and heated and ventilated driver and front-passenger seats are just a few of the luxurious elements included in the Yukon’s interior.

They are, of course, made of leather. This is your fortunate day, since the AT4 package includes real wood features as well as distinctive fractal stitching in the seats, all of which are highly sought after by collectors.

Acadia AT4

An important sector of the driving population is on the search for an SUV with off-road ability as well as a sumptuous cabin with enough of amenities to fill Santa’s sack, but they want something smaller than the Yukon. The Acadia AT4 is the solution to your search for the perfect SUV.This mid-size SUV exceeds expectations in every way.The Acadia AT4, like the Sierra and Yukon, creates molehills out of mountains and makes you look forward to being trapped in traffic while you’re sitting in the lap of luxury on the highway.

  • The Acadia, like the Sierra and Yukon, is equipped with a number of performance features like as Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist, as well as the Active Torque Control all-wheel-drive system.
  • This technology, which comes standard on the AT4, automatically sends torque to the wheel that requires it the most in order to improve traction.
  • In the Acadia AT4, you’ll find a beautiful interior that has all of the amenities you want as well as the comfort and elegance you expect.
  • Interior options include a premium fabric interior in black with Kalahari accents and special trim, or black leather-appointed seats with Kalahari accents and exclusive trim.
  1. In addition, the AT4 package has an innovative temperature management system that guarantees that passengers are as comfortable as the driver.
  2. This is a standard feature that is included with the AT4 package.

Canyon AT4

The Canyon AT4 will make its debut in 2021, and it will take you on the most exhilarating journey of your life.Without further ado, let me tell you about some of the off-road features: a one-inch suspension leveling kit, performance front and mid skid plates, and an off-road rocker panel protection.Similar to its larger sibling, the Canyon is equipped with the power and performance need to go on any adventure. And, like the Sierra, the Canyon is outfitted with tires, an engine, and suspension that are durable, powerful, and capable of transporting you to the location where the adventure begins, just like the Sierra.

  • Although the Canyon is a little pickup truck, it has a spacious and well-designed cabin that is both functional and elegant.
  • The Canyon AT4 is equipped with a soft-touch instrument panel, heated front seats, and power driver lumbar adjustment as standard equipment.
  • It’s obvious to tell from behind the wheel that GMC didn’t skimp on the inside materials, which were all high-quality leather and wood.

The AT4 Package Provides More

When GMC introduced the AT4 package, they struck a chord with many people. When people talk about the Sierra AT4 or the Acadia AT4, you can almost feel the excitement in the air.Certainly, they are not simply package deals that boost a few aspects; rather, they are game-changers in their own right. There was no reason why GMC couldn’t have developed the AT4 package as either a luxury package or a performance package; but, they did the right thing and blended the two, and they succeeded.

GMC AT4 – What You Need To Know

GMC is a sub-brand of General Motors, yet the cars it produces are equivalent to those produced by Chevy, another GM subsidiary.GMC is headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. The issue that GMC must overcome, then, is to find a means to differentiate themselves from Chevrolet despite delivering products that are relatively comparable. The challenge of creating something that is fundamentally distinct from something else is not an easy one.

  • GMC, on the other hand, appears to have risen to the situation, as seen by the good choice to develop a range of AT4 off-road focused, radically restyled models that are distinct to the GMC line-up and available nowhere else.
  • In recent history, this is the first time that a major difference can be observed between Chevrolet and GMC products.
  • GMC’s AT4 range of automobiles is absolutely unmatched by anything in the Chevrolet lineup.

  2. In addition to other improvements, the interiors now have sportier trim pieces and AT4 headrests, among other things.
  3. It’s my opinion that the AT4 trim looks particularly good on the Sierra HD, which gets fresh stylistic cues from the AT4 series that are both dynamic and assertive.
  4. This gives an already aggressive vehicle an even more hostile appearance.
  5. It also includes off-road suspension components like as Rancho shocks, skid plates, and all-terrain tires, allowing you to tackle the trails straight immediately after purchase.

Additionally, a GMC-exclusive six-function MultiPro tailgate is available, with the ability to be reconfigured into six distinct configurations.Concluding Remarks GMC’s new line of AT4 vehicles will provide the company something that Chevy cannot replicate, and it will help the company separate out from the competition with distinctive style cues, interior enhancements, and enhanced off-road capabilities.

What’s Included in the AT4 Performance Package?

  • GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck The 13th of February, 2021 When you work in a car dealership, you have a lot of advantages. My favorite part is having the ability to drive the newest Sierra and Silverado pickup trucks around the clock. For the next 3-5 months, I’ll be driving one as a dealer demonstration, unless it sells before then. The Sierra and Silverado received a significant facelift in 2019. The Chevrolet Silverado High Country and GMC Sierra AT4 have been my go-to trucks for the most part. Despite the fact that both vehicles are at the top end of the scale, they are vastly different. Because we were running low on inventory, I picked the only 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 we had in stock at the moment, which happened to be the only one available. Black isn’t my first pick when it comes to color. It appears to be immaculately clean, yet it never seems to remain that way. The 6.2 V8 engine was the one thing I absolutely had to have. AT4. 6.2. AT4. 6.2. Let’s get started! Afterwards, I was looking through the choices and came across a model code that I wasn’t acquainted with. In every situation, the 6.2-liter V8 engine mated to the 10-speed gearbox provided more than enough power to suit my requirements. But hold on a sec. What could this possibly be? I instantly went through the spec sheet and cracked a grin on my face. This option had not previously been listed on any earlier GMC Sierra AT4 spec sheets that I had reviewed. Off-Road Performance Package – What Is It? Tires: LT275/65R 18 Duractrac (we normally buy these on AT4 anyhow)
  • (PDM) – Performance Upgrade Package (we always order this on AT4) Performance Air Intake System
  • Performance Exhaust with Catalytic Converter

Air Intake adds more power!

With the power and performance of the 6.2L V8 engine with Dynamic Fuel Management, I’m quite pleased with my purchase. Most of the time, 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque are more than sufficient. But, as they say, you don’t know what you don’t know.By installing the cold air intake, I was able to get an additional 15 horsepower and 9 pound-feet of torque.

  • Transforming my regular automobile into a 439 horsepower off-roading behemoth was a rewarding experience.
  • I was able to tell the difference right away.
  • Previously, I had praised the 6.2’s power and performance in my earlier demos, but the difference in this one was immediately obvious.
  • The twin exhaust system on the GMC Sierra AT4 was nothing new, as it is standard equipment.
  1. However, the addition of the cat-back exhaust produced the ideal rumbling for my ears.
  2. At first, I was concerned that the exhaust would wake up the neighbors and make driving unpleasant.
  3. This is absolutely not the case.
  4. When I press the remote start button in the morning, I get a wonderful sporty rumble that puts a grin on my face.
  5. The Borla Cat Back Exhaust system that we used to install on our previous-generation vehicles brings back fond memories.

Is it really worth the extra money? This package, which includes a factory-installed cold air intake and a particularly high-quality exhaust, is an excellent deal for little more than $3,000 dollars. This will not be appealing to all AT4 purchasers. For most people, the 6.2-liter V-8 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission is more than enough power for their everyday car.

  • Already contemplating the installation of a cat-back exhaust system?
  • At the same time, why not boost the ante and get a few extra horsepower?

LOOKS

  • The Sierra 1500 Limited’s external design is huge and bold, with an in-your-face grille, beautiful headlight designs, and attractive wheel designs, among other features. I was able to bring huge and heavy stuff home from the store since the bed was large enough. It is approximately 20 feet in length, 81 inches in width, and 78 inches in height. The rear bumper with a cornerstep and the stairs to help passengers get into and out of the car were both really useful. Its multi-pro tailgate may be adjusted to a variety of configurations to suit your requirements. The vehicle was equipped with a spray-on bedliner, LED cargo area lighting, power folding and heated mirrors, LED fog lights, and a dual exhaust system, among other features. Moving inside, the Sierra Limited is spacious, with enough room for all 5 passengers and lots of storage space for little goods. It is a comfortable vehicle. The materials used in the Sierra’s interior are of good quality, but not of the same caliber as those found in the more opulent Denali variants of the vehicle. In addition to dual-zone temperature control, 10-way power front seats, ventilated front seats, a 60/40 folding rear bench seat, and a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, my test car included the following features: Additionally, purchasers may choose the AT4 Premium Package, which improves the vehicle’s performance, design, safety, and technological capabilities. Its highlights include: a universal home remote, a rear sliding power window, a premium infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth streaming, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a Bose premium sound system, wireless charging, front and rear park assist, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, an AT4 high clearance step, and all-terrain Goodyear tires.

HOW’S THE RIDE?

A strong ride that you can rely on in practically any setting, on or off road, is provided by the Sierra 1500 Limited AT4 pickup truck. It’s a terrific solution for those who live in terrible weather and want to feel secure no matter what the weather brings, as well as for people who need to pull huge goods. The Sierra, even in severe weather and snowy roads, provided exceptional comfort, which is not always the case with pickup trucks of similar size. You’ll also feel ten feet taller when driving the Sierra 1500 Limited, since you’ll be towering over practically every other car on the road.

  • Even the largest SUVs appear small in contrast.
  • With the exception of finding parking, this has the disadvantage of being quite tough to perform.
  • The Sierra is available with a variety of engine options, but my test car was equipped with a Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine that produced 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and was mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
  • Even while the Sierra’s towing capability is over 9,000 pounds on the carryover model, that amount will rise to over 13,000 pounds on some models of the completely redesigned Sierra, which will be available later in 2021.
  1. I measured the payload capacity of the Sierra at slightly over 2,300 pounds for the vehicle I tested.
  2. The Sierra Limited AT4 is equipped with four-wheel drive all of the time.
  3. The off-road suspension with a 2-inch elevation and monotube shocks, a 2-speed transfer case, skid plates, and hill descent control are some of the other features that enhance driving capabilities while traveling off the usual route.
  4. Trailer sway control, hill start aid, as well as a trailer brake controller, are all included in the package.

TECHNOLOGY, SAFETY

The Sierra’s infotainment system features a physical design that is basic but effective, and it is straightforward to operate.Voice commands are very simple to learn, and the car responds quickly when you use them to change the music source, make calls, or dictate navigation goals. In addition, recommended instructions display on the screen to assist you.Additionally, satellite radio, USB ports, remote start, and Wi-Fi hotspot functionality are all included, as is OnStar service.

  • The Technology Package (which is an optional feature) includes HD Surround Vision, a back camera mirror, a bed view camera, a head-up display, and other features, among other things.
  • Because all official safety ratings are either five stars or four stars, the Sierra is considered to be one of the safest pickup trucks available, which is another significant advantage.
  • Parental users will appreciate the Teen Driver option, which allows you to follow the driving behaviors of teenagers who are behind the wheel of a vehicle.
  • In addition, there is a tire pressure monitoring system.
  1. Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Front Pedestrian Braking are some of the other useful safety features.

MPG

The Sierra’s fuel economy will vary depending on whatever engine you opt to use.The official fuel economy ratings for the Sierra truck I tested with the turbo-diesel engine were 20 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the interstate, and 21 mpg combined. In real-world testing, I averaged closer to 17 miles per gallon, with the majority of the time spent in extremely cold temperatures, which can reduce fuel economy. These are hardly fantastic results, but trucks in general tend to suffer in this area — with the exception of smaller, less powerful vehicles and the new crop of hybrid and electric trucks that are beginning to make waves in the industry.

  • While these older vehicles are now underperforming in terms of fuel mileage, I am optimistic that competition from the new wave of environmentally friendly trucks will drive all trucks even farther in the direction of improved overall fuel economy.

PRICE

  • It is no secret that trucks these days are not inexpensive, and the Sierra is no exception. While the Sierra 1500 starts at roughly $33,000, my test vehicle ended up costing just under $65,000 once all of the options were included. While it appears to be a significant sum, it is fairly usual to see today’s top trucks selling for far in excess of $70K, and the days of finding an affordable but still strong work truck are swiftly passing us by. A three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, as well as a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, are all included with the Sierra.

BOTTOM LINE

If you put it to work, the carryover 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited AT4 is a huge, strong truck that can handle itself in whatever weather and road (or off-road) circumstances you throw at it.It is also a truck that will get the job done if given the opportunity. And when the revised 2022 version becomes out, it is expected to be much better, with a crisper appearance and increased technology and safety measures, among other things. You may either wait for the new version to come out or buy the holdover version if you can’t wait any longer.

  • However, you will have a highly capable vehicle in your driveway or on your job site in any case.

Duramax Diesel is a Downright Deal

Photograph courtesy of Christian Wardlaw The optional turbodiesel engine from General Motors is more cheap than those from Ford and Ram.Moreover, for $995, it is a great value, especially when you consider its seamless ability to get 21.1 mpg in our testing. That’s less than the EPA’s 24-mpg rating, but I wasn’t letting up on the gas, and much of my driving was in steep terrain, so it was acceptable. One of the engine’s highlights is the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder diesel engine.

  • It produces 277 horsepower at 3,750
