In contrast to most automobiles, the 2021 Acura RDX does not include a large number of trim levels or any significant revisions for the model year.It offers two different driving experiences as well as three different packages that include additional amenities that you may desire in your luxury SUV.We’ll go through each package in detail to assist you in determining which brand-new redesigned Acura RDX is the best fit for your needs.

    Comparing RDX Trims

When it comes to shopping for the Acura RDX, you may find yourself feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of options available to you. This tutorial will walk you through the fundamentals and, hopefully, make your experience a bit smoother and a whole lot more enjoyable overall.

    FWD or Super Handling AWD

One of the first decisions you’ll have to make is the drivetrain you want to use.Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are, of course, available configurations. Both vehicles are powered by the same 2.0-litre engine that produces 272 horsepower. The front-wheel-drive configuration is the conventional and least expensive configuration, with an MSRP of $38,400.AWD with exceptional handling helps to direct power where it is needed, resulting in a smoother and more controlled ride overall. This additional $2,000 increases the base MSRP for the 2021 Acura RDX SH-AWD to $40,400, which is an increase of $2,000 over the current model.

    Technology Package

You may upgrade to the technology package for an additional $2,900 if you want superior technologies. The FWD now costs $41,800, while the AWD costs $43,800, bringing the total to $43,800.This package either adds or replaces standard equipment that are available on the base Acura RDX model for the year 2021.The package offers a few luxuries that may be significant to drivers, such as heated seats.Sport seats with a perforated leather-trimmed upholstery are among the options available. It also includes an update to a quality 12-speaker audio system as well as a smart key entry system.

With the inclusion of an On-Demand Multi-Use Display, GPS-linked temperature control, voice recognition for navigation and climate management, and an Acura Navigation System with a 3-D perspective, drivers will also benefit from enhanced media and connection. You’ll never be late for work again thanks to this system, which features real-time traffic as well as traffic rerouting, so traffic will no longer be an excuse. You may be shocked to learn that the technology package includes capabilities for driver assistance and safety as well as other functions.

Blind Spot Information System, front and rear parking sensors, and rear cross traffic monitoring will all be available to you as standard equipment.

    A-Spec Package

The Acura RDX A-Spec is a more refined and sportier version of the standard vehicle. It will be distinguished by distinctive badging, exhaust ports, and inside trim. The 20-inch Shark Grey wheels, as well as the other gloss black features on the car, will attract attention everywhere you go.The heated and ventilated front seats are standard equipment. The cabin’s ambient lighting is a deep crimson.Aside from that, it has all of the same high-quality features as the previous versions.

Buyers must also purchase the Technology Package in addition to this package, which costs an extra $5,900.This package is worth $3,000 when purchased separately. As a result, the FWD would have an MSRP of $44,800, while the AWD would have an MSRP of $46,800.

    Advance Package

The Advance Package is the last of the packages from which you can pick. This improves the comfort, technology, and convenience of the vehicle, allowing you to look forward to driving each day.The package alone costs $4,900, but it also necessitates the purchase of the Technology Package in addition to that.As a result, purchasers who choose this option will incur an extra $7,800 in total expenses. That comes out to $46,700 for the front-wheel-drive model and $48,700 for the all-wheel-drive.Milano Premium leather seats with perforations, as well as heated and ventilated front seats, are included in the advance package’s interior.

Aside from that, the front chairs are equipped with 16-way power lumbar support and thigh extensions. In terms of features, the RDX boasts rain-sensing windshield wipers, remote engine start, auto-dimming side mirrors, and fog lights on the outside. Finally, the inclusion of a surround-view camera has been included in the safety features.

2020 Acura RDX Review: This is How You Do It – VNExplorer

Auto123 examines the 2020 Acura RDX, which has been enhanced with the A-Spec option. It’s been a year since the redesigned RDX SUV debuted on the market, and the initial excitement over the new product’s aesthetics and performance has been stamped and validated by owners who have put the vehicle through its paces. The Acura RDX has surpassed all other models in the premium carmaker’s North American portfolio in terms of sales.According to Acura, it is also the second-most popular luxury SUV among American consumers in the class, after the Cadillac Escalade. To be honest, it’s not difficult to understand why. This new model has a sleek appearance, runs crisply, and has a pleasant, luxury interior atmosphere, all in one package.

A helpful exercise is to contrast the vehicle with the MDX SUV, which is the model’s bigger sister in the Acura range. The new RDX is nearly diametrically opposed to the previous model, which was stodgy, bland, and well beyond its prime. What do you mean by that?

The RDX’s exterior styling is sleek, aggressive, and streamlined, whereas the MDX’s is squarish and anonymous; it has a responsive powertrain that delivers sporty driving dynamics, whereas the MDX’s is plodding and workmanlike; and it’s much younger on the inside, with a more-modern interior and more advanced technology.Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers A-Spec My tester for the week was outfitted with the A-Spec package, which does little to improve the performance of the SUV but does a great deal to enhance the appeal of its elegant exterior (and luxurious interior).Among other things, it equips the RDX with larger 20-inch alloy wheels (and wider tires) as well as unique black trim on the interior and exterior, LED fog lights, power-folding side mirrors and special badging, among other things.

A premium 16-speaker ELS Studio surround-sound audio system, a heated steering wheel, Alcantara leather upholstery with contrasting stitching, aluminum sport pedals, and ventilated front seats are also included (heating is standard on all versions).Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers I believe that purchasers will find it difficult to resist the slight additional outlay necessary to obtain this package, which significantly improves the aesthetic attractiveness of the RDX.However, as previously said, bear in mind that this is an esthetic package, and as such, it will not improve the performance of the model in order to match the more stunning aesthetics. The engine’s drivetrain With that in mind, you’re not putting lipstick on a pig here; the performance itself is nothing short of spectacular. The engine (and there is only one of them) is a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit that produces 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque while working in conjunction with a 10-speed automated transmission.

Each and every version of the RDX in Canada is equipped with Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system as standard equipment, as part of a comprehensive list of features and functions that purchasers will not be required to pay an additional fee to get (FYI, Apple CarPlay yes, Android Auto no).Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers During my week of driving, I had the opportunity to take the RDX out in the snow, but not in especially challenging circumstances. In contrast, what I received from the SH-AWD system was an aura of calm competence, which was in keeping with its established reputation. This system delivers 70% of the torque to the back wheels, and then 100% of that torque to either the right or left wheel, depending on the situation.

    • It’s possible that this feature may not be a deal-maker for some purchasers, but it will also not be a deal-breaker for others.
    • The packages have been delivered.
    • Beyond the A-Spec package ($5,800 extra), buyers can choose to upgrade their RDX (of which there is only one trim level and which starts at $43,990) with the Tech package ($3,300), which includes blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic monitor, rain-sensing windshield wipers, navigation, and rear USB ports, among other features.
    • Alternatively, they can upgrade to the Elite package, which costs $5,500 and includes features such as a unique wheel design, auto-dimming side mirrors, headlamp washers, heated rear seats, and perforated leather on the seating, or the Platinum Elite package, which costs $ 10,000 and includes everything (unique wheel design, adaptive front headlights, LED foglights, rear camera washer, colour head-up display, second-row climate controls, 360-degree camera, 16-way power-adjustable front seats that are ventilated, genuine wood trim).
    • Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers The interiorOverall, the 2020 RDX has a high-quality inside that eliminates any possibility of feeling like you’re driving anything other than a luxury car.
    • With the 12-way power adjust function and lumber support in the front row, you can find your perfect seat position in no time owing to the high level of comfort provided.
    • In addition, the Alcantara leather and contrasting stitching of the A-Spec package provide a lot of visual interest to the crisp black and red color scheme.

Overall, the build quality is impeccable, with a near-total lack of cheap-looking or –feeling components, as well as no rattling or shaking to indicate that pieces aren’t quite snugly enough put together. The numerous commands are placed out in a cascading fashion on the primary console, which results in a layout that is less complicated than its cluttered look would lead you to believe it is.Nonetheless, if you like a simple, streamlined look, this configuration, which was initially introduced with the refont last year, may irritate you.Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers With its enormous, 10.2-inch screen perched over the entire dashboard, it appears almost permanently attached.I foresee a day when more manufacturers will fully incorporate this function into the design of the dashboard, which I hope will be sooner than later.

    • It all appears to be impermanent, as if it might be removed with enough effort, and it has the appearance of being tacked on.
    • However, it is evident that these screens are going to stay, so why not completely include them into the design…
    • One last sneer is directed at that obnoxious touchpad located on the lower section of the console, which appears to have been created expressly to cause annoyance and trigger fits of rage every time the car encounters a minor bump in the road and forces you to pick the incorrect command.

Fortunately, most of the things you can do with your finger on the pad can also be done with buttons on other devices. Please, follow Mazda’s lead and replace it with a wheel instead. Please, could you do me a favor?Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers Drive-assist and safety features are included.Typical of any self-respecting premium SUV, the 2020 RDX is equipped with a variety of safety and driving assistance features that vary from absolutely necessary to absolutely necessary but inconveniently intrusive.Forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, road departure mitigation, a multi-angle rearview camera, and automatic high lights are just a few of the features you may expect.

Also worth mentioning is that the 2020 RDX received the highest possible Top Safety Pick+ rating from the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (AIIHS) (IIHS).For a compact SUV, the RDX provides adequate rear cargo space, with a total capacity of 881 litres when you include the bins on either side of the trunk, which, if nothing else, can be used to keep your grocery bags from toppling over while you’re taking advantage of the vehicle’s cornering capabilities. If you fold down the rear seats, you can fit up to 2,260 litres of cargo in the RDX.Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers When you’re on the road, Unfortunately, I had the opportunity to drive the RDX just a week after driving the bigger MDX, and the contrast worked entirely in favor of the more compact Acura SUV.A combination of tight, sensitive steering and the car’s strong structure results in a vehicle that accelerates quickly and handles crisply. When it comes to an SUV with sporty aspirations, perhaps the highest compliment you can pay it is to say it drives like a sporty car, and the RDX more than earns that distinction.

    1. With compact or larger SUVs, the Sport mode is frequently used solely for the purpose of making the engine screech and little else.
    2. Fortunately, once I switched the RDX into that mode, it remained in that mode for the rest of that week.
    3. While doing so causes upshifts to be delayed, there was no noticeable engine shrieking; instead, the tighter settings assure driving dynamics that seem tauter than when in standard mode is selected.
    4. Despite the fact that the car is quite overweight for a compact SUV, the 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine delivers enough power to get the job done (2,280 kg).
    1. Some have called for a V6 engine to be offered as an option with the RDX, but I personally do not believe this is necessary.
    2. Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers Consumption of fuel The 2020 Acura RDX has fuel economy ratings of 11L/100 km in the city and 8.6L/100 km on the highway, for a total 9.9L/100 km.
    3. When equipped with the A-Spec package and larger wheels, the RDX performs somewhat worse at the pump, consuming 11.3L/9.1L/10.3L per 100 km (city/highway/combined) in comparison to the base model.

As is customary in winter driving, those statistics were thrown off, and my final total after a week of (albeit city-heavy) travel was a disappointing 13.5L/100 km.Maybe I could have done better if I hadn’t been in Sport mode, but what would have been the fun in that…Conclusion The 2020 Acura RDX is a superb pick in the luxury small SUV sector, and that’s even before you consider the fact that it’s priced competitively with the German big guns in this segment.Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers Even though the A-Spec package adds more sporting pretensions to the model without actually injecting it with steroids, it doesn’t make a difference: the RDX is an agile, responsive athlete right out of the box.It is blessed with a nervous accelerator pedal, an engine and transmission that are ready to go, a Sport mode that actually makes a difference, and a properly stiff chassis.A seductive purr from under the hood, a fully high-class interior, and the absence of any glaring flaws round out the package well.

When it comes to fuel economy, there is some debate, but I believe that if you drive a more balanced combination of city and highway driving than I do, you will perform better than I did.Photograph courtesy of D.Boshouwers We enjoy the sleek appearance, especially when combined with the A-Spec treatment.Excellent acceleration combined with excellent handling Engine sound that is seductive Sport mode that is deserving of the moniker We are dissatisfied with the building quality. There is no integration with Android Auto. The primary console appears to be quite busy.

Acura Advanced Package vs Acura Technology Package

    1. Automobile magazine Auto123 examines the 2020 Acura RDX, which has been enhanced with the A-Spec package It’s been a year since the redesigned RDX SUV debuted on the market, and the initial excitement about the new product’s aesthetics and performance has been stamped and validated by owners who have put the vehicle through its paces on the open road.
    2. According to Acura’s North American sales figures, its RDX SUV is currently the best-selling vehicle in the company’s portfolio.
    3. Additionally, according to Acura, it’s the second most popular luxury SUV in the segment among American purchasers.
    4. To be honest, it isn’t difficult to understand why.
    5. Aesthetically pleasing, this new model performs admirably, and the interior atmosphere is pleasant and luxurious in every way.

Comparisons with the MDX SUV, the larger brother in the Acura family, are a good exercise to do before purchasing the vehicle. In practically every way, the new RDX is a stark contrast to the previous model, which was bland, uninteresting, and outdated.I’m not sure how to put it.The RDX’s exterior styling is sleek, aggressive, and streamlined, whereas the MDX’s is squarish and anonymous; it has a responsive powertrain that delivers sporty driving dynamics, whereas the MDX’s is plodding and workmanlike; and it is significantly younger on the inside, with a more-modern interior and more advanced technology.D.Boshouwers took the photo.

    • A-Spec Despite the fact that the A-Spec package has no effect on the performance of the SUV, it does a lot to make that sleek exterior shell (as well as the luxurious inside) that much more enticing to look at.
    • Among other things, it equips the RDX with larger 20-inch alloy wheels (and wider tires) as well as unique black trim on the interior and exterior, LED fog lights, power-folding side mirrors and special badging, among other features.
    • You’ll also receive a premium 16-speaker ELS Studio surround-sound audio system, a heated steering wheel, Alcantara leather upholstery with contrasting stitching, aluminum sport pedals, and ventilated front seats as standard equipment (heating is standard on all versions).

D.Boshouwers took the photo. In my opinion, purchasers will have a difficult time resisting the tiny additional expenditure necessary to obtain this package, which significantly improves the RDX’s overall aesthetic appeal. It’s important to remember that this is an aesthetic package and that it will not improve the performance of the model in order to match its more stunning appearance. It has to do with the engine.

With that in mind, you’re not putting lipstick on a pig here; the performance isn’t bad in the least. With a 10-speed automatic transmission, the engine (there is only one) produces 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The engine is a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit.

Each and every version of the RDX in Canada is equipped with Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system as standard equipment, as part of a comprehensive list of features and functions that purchasers will not be required to pay an additional fee to receive (FYI, Apple CarPlay yes, Android Auto no).D.Boshouwers took the photo. While I was driving the RDX throughout my week of driving, I had the opportunity to do it on snow, but not in especially challenging circumstances.

    • In contrast, what I received from the SH-AWD system was an aura of calm expertise, which was in keeping with its well-deserved reputation in the industry.
    • It delivers 70% of the torque to the back wheels, and then 100% of that torque to either the right or left wheel, depending on the situation at the time.
    • It’s possible that this feature may not be a deal-maker for certain purchasers, but it also won’t be a deal-breaker for others either.
    • The packages were sent out to customers.
    • The Tech package ($3,300) adds blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, rain-sensing windshield wipers, GPS, and rear USB ports to the RDX (which is available in only one trim level and begins at $43,990), in addition to the A-Spec package ($5,800 more).

The Elite package, which costs $5,500 and includes features such as auto-dimming side mirrors, headlamp washers, heated rear seats and perforated leather on the seating, or the all-inclusive Platinum Elite package, which costs $ 10,000, are also available.Alternatively, they can upgrade to the Platinum Elite package, which costs $ 10,000 and includes features such as perforated leather on the seating (unique wheel design, adaptive front headlights, LED foglights, rear camera washer, colour head-up display, second-row climate controls, 360-degree camera, 16-way power-adjustable front seats that are ventilated, genuine wood trim).D.Boshouwers took the photo.

D.Boshouwers took the photo. The interiorOverall, the 2020 RDX has a high-quality inside that eliminates any possibility of feeling like you’re in anything other than a high-end automobile. The sitting is really comfortable, and in the front row, your optimum seat position is very readily obtained owing to the 12-way power adjust function, which also includes lumber support. In addition, the Alcantara leather and contrasting stitching of the A-Spec package add a lot of visual interest to the stark black and red color scheme of the vehicle.

Overall, the build quality is excellent, with a near-total lack of cheap-looking or –feeling components, as well as no rattling or shaking to indicate that pieces aren’t quite snugly enough put together….This layout is less complex than its crowded look would lead you to believe, thanks to the way the numerous instructions are set out in cascading form on the center console. But if you like a simple, streamlined style, this configuration, which was initially introduced with the refont last year, may be a turnoff for you.

    • D.Boshouwers took the photo.
    • This car’s big 10.2-inch screen rests atop the whole dashboard, almost as if it were attached to it, and I for one am looking forward to the day when other automakers completely integrate this technology into the design of their dashboards.
    • If you work hard enough, it everything appears to be removable, and it has the appearance of being a temporary addition.
    • Although these screens are certainly here to stay, why not completely include them into your design?
    • One final sneer is directed at that obnoxious touchpad located on the lower portion of the console, which appears to have been created specifically to cause frustration and induce fits of rage every time the vehicle encounters a minor bump in the road and causes you to select the incorrect command or function.
    • Most of the things you do with your finger on the pad can be done with buttons on other devices, which is a blessing.

It should be replaced by a wheel, as Mazda has done. Please, could you do anything kind for me?D.Boshouwers took the photo. The elements that aid you while driving and those that keep you safe Typical of any self-respecting premium SUV, the 2020 RDX is equipped with a variety of safety and driving assistance features that vary from absolutely necessary to absolutely necessary but inconveniently intrusive, depending on the situation.Forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, road departure mitigation, a multi-angle rearview camera, and automatic high lights are just a few of the features you can obtain. Also worth mentioning is that the 2020 RDX received the highest possible Top Safety Pick+ rating from the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (AiiHS) (IIHS).

    • To claim an SUV has sporting goals is maybe the highest praise you can pay it; the RDX certainly deserves to be called out for driving like a sports car.
    • With compact or bigger SUVs, the Sport mode is frequently used just for the purpose of making the engine shriek, with little more done.
    • When I turned on the RDX in this location, it remained in that mode for the remainder of the week.
    • However, while doing so causes upshifts to be delayed, there was no audible engine shrieking; rather, the tighter settings provide driving dynamics that seem tauter than in usual mode.
    • Despite the fact that the car is somewhat hefty for a compact SUV, the 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine delivers enough power to manage it (2,280 kg).
    • A V6 engine has been requested for the RDX, but I personally do not believe that it is necessary.
    • D.Boshouwers took the photo.
    • Consumption of petroleum products For the 2020 Acura RDX, the fuel economy is assessed at 11L/100 km in the city and 8.6L/100 km on the highway, for a total fuel economy of 9.9L/100km.
    • Despite the A-Spec package and the RDX’s larger wheels, the vehicle’s fuel economy drops somewhat, with 11.3L, 9.1L, and 10.3L per 100 kilometers (city, highway, and mixed), respectively.
    • Those estimates were thrown off by winter driving, as seen by my overall fuel consumption of 13.5L/100 km after a week of (admittedly city-intensive) travel.
    • Perhaps I could have done better if I had not used Sport mode, but what would have been the fun in that…
    • Conclusion In the luxury small SUV class, the 2020 Acura RDX is a fantastic pick, and that’s even before you consider its relatively low price tag when compared to the German heavyweights.
    1. D.Boshouwers took the photo.
    2. Even though the A-Spec package adds more sporting pretensions to the model without actually injecting it with steroids, it doesn’t make a difference: the RDX is an agile, responsive athlete right out of the box.
    3. It is blessed with a nervous accelerator pedal, an engine and transmission that are ready to go, a Sport mode that actually makes a difference, and a chassis that is appropriately rigid.
    4. A seductive purr from under the hood, a truly high-class cabin, and the absence of any glaring flaws round out the picture well.

    Acura Advance Package

    1. Auto123 gives its verdict on the 2020 Acura RDX, which has been enhanced with the A-Spec option.
    2. Since the revised RDX SUV first on the market a year ago, owners who have put their own stamp on the new vehicle’s aesthetics and performance have confirmed their original enthusiasm.
    3. The Acura RDX has surpassed all other models in the premium automaker’s North American portfolio in terms of sales.
    4. According to Acura, it is also the second most popular luxury SUV in the segment among American consumers.
    5. It’s not difficult to understand why, to be honest.

This new model has a sleek appearance, delivers snappy performance, and has a pleasant, luxury interior atmosphere.Comparing the vehicle to its larger sister in the Acura range, the MDX SUV, may be a fruitful exercise. The new RDX is virtually diametrically opposed to the previous model, which was bland, uninteresting, and out of date. What do you mean, exactly? The RDX is sleek, aggressive, and streamlined in its exterior styling, whereas the MDX is squarish and anonymous; it has a responsive powertrain that delivers sporty driving dynamics, whereas the MDX’s is plodding and workmanlike; and it’s much younger on the inside, with a more-modern interior and more advanced technology.

    • Photograph by D.Boshouwers A-Spec My tester for the week was outfitted with the A-Spec package, which does nothing to improve the performance of the SUV but does a great deal to make its beautiful exterior (and luxurious inside) that much more enticing.
    • It equips the RDX with larger 20-inch alloy wheels (and wider tires), as well as unique black trim on the interior and outside, LED fog lights, power-folding side mirrors, and special badging, among other things.
    • You’ll also receive a premium 16-speaker ELS Studio surround-sound audio system, a heated steering wheel, Alcantara leather upholstery with contrasting stitching, aluminum sport pedals, and ventilated front seats (heating is standard on all versions).

Photograph by D.Boshouwers I believe consumers will find it difficult to pass up the slight additional outlay necessary to obtain this package, which significantly improves the aesthetic attractiveness of the RDX.But, as previously said, bear in mind that this is an esthetic package, and as such, it will not improve the performance of the model in order to match the more stunning aesthetics. The engine’s powertrain With that in mind, you’re not putting lipstick on a pig here; the performance isn’t bad in the first place. The engine (and there is only one of them) is a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged unit that produces 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque when combined with a 10-speed automated transmission.

Every version of the RDX in Canada is equipped with Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system as standard equipment, as part of a comprehensive list of features and functions that purchasers will not have to pay extra for (FYI, Apple CarPlay yes, Android Auto no).Photograph by D.Boshouwers During my week of driving, I had the opportunity to take the RDX out in the snow, but not in especially challenging circumstances. However, what I received from the SH-AWD system was an aura of calm competence that was commensurate with the reputation it has established for itself.

It delivers 70% of the torque to the back wheels and then 100% of that torque to either the right or left wheel, depending on the situation. It’s possible that this feature may not be a deal-maker for certain purchasers, but it also won’t be a deal-breaker for others. The packages were delivered.

    • Aside from the A-Spec package ($5,800 extra), buyers have the option of upgrading their RDX (of which there is only one trim level and which starts at $43,990) with the Tech package ($3,300), which includes blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, rain-sensing windshield wipers, navigation, and rear USB ports.
    • Alternatively, they can upgrade to the Elite package for $5,500 (which includes a unique wheel design, auto-dimming side mirrors, headlamp washers, heated rear seats, and perforated leather on the seating) or the Platinum Elite package for $ 10,000 (which includes a unique wheel design, auto-dimming side mirrors, headlamp washers, heated rear seats, perforated leather on the seating) (unique wheel design, adaptive front headlights, LED foglights, rear camera washer, colour head-up display, second-row climate controls, 360-degree camera, 16-way power-adjustable front seats that are ventilated, genuine wood trim).
    • Photograph by D.Boshouwers Photograph by D.Boshouwers The interiorOverall, the 2020 RDX has a high-quality inside that eliminates any possibility of feeling like you’re in anything less than a high-end car.
    • With the 12-way power adjust feature and lumber support in the front row, finding your optimal seat position is a breeze, especially in the back row.
    • In addition, the Alcantara leather and contrasting stitching of the A-Spec package give the striking black and red color scheme a great pop.

Overall, the build quality is excellent, with a near-total lack of cheap-looking or –feeling components, as well as no rattling or vibrating to indicate that pieces aren’t quite snugly enough put together. The numerous instructions are placed out in a cascading fashion on the center console, which results in a layout that is less complex than its cluttered look would lead you to believe.Nonetheless, if you like a simple, streamlined look, this configuration, which was initially introduced with the refont last year, may annoy you.

Photograph by D.Boshouwers The enormous 10.2-inch screen is perched atop the entire structure, as if it were glued to it, and I can’t wait for the day when other manufacturers will have fully integrated this element into the design of the dashboard.Everything appears to be impermanent, as if it might be removed with enough effort, and everything has the appearance of being tacked on.However, it is evident that these screens are going to stay, so why not completely integrate them into the design…One final snub is reserved for that obnoxious touchpad located on the lower section of the console, which appears to have been created expressly to cause annoyance and incite fits of rage every time the car encounters a minor bump in the road and forces you to pick the incorrect command.

Fortunately, you can do most of what you do with your finger on the pad by pressing buttons on other devices. Please, follow Mazda’s lead and replace it with a wheel. Please, could you please?

    • Photograph by D.Boshouwers Drive-assist and safety features are standard.
    • As a self-respecting premium SUV, the 2020 RDX is equipped with a variety of safety and drive-assist features that vary from absolutely necessary to absolutely necessary but inconveniently intrusive.
    • Forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, road departure mitigation, a multi-angle rearview camera, and automatic high lights are just a few of the features available.
    • Also worth noting is that the 2020 RDX received the highest possible Top Safety Pick+ rating from the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
    • For a compact SUV, the RDX provides adequate rear cargo space, with a total capacity of 881 litres when you include the bins on either side of the trunk, which, if nothing else, can be used to keep your grocery bags from toppling over when you’re taking advantage of the vehicle’s cornering abilities.
    • With the seats folded down, the RDX has a total capacity of 2,260 litres.

Photograph by D.Boshouwers When you’re on the road The RDX happened to be my second vehicle after driving the bigger MDX, and the difference worked entirely in favor of the smaller Acura SUV.The RDX offers lively acceleration as well as crisp handling, due in part to its tight, quick steering and, in part, to the vehicle’s rigid structure.Perhaps the highest praise you can pay to an SUV with sporting goals is to claim that it drives like a sports car, and the Acura RDX more than merits this distinction in this regard. When it comes to compact or big SUVs, the Sport mode is usually only used to make the engine howl and nothing else. However, after I put the RDX into that mode, it remained in that state for the remainder of the week. While doing so causes upshifts to be delayed, there was no noticeable engine shrieking; instead, the tighter settings provide driving dynamics that seem tauter than in usual mode.

Although it is a tiny SUV, the 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine has enough power to manage what is a pretty hefty vehicle for its size (2,280 kg). Some have called for the inclusion of a V6 engine in the RDX, but I personally do not believe this is necessary.Photograph by D.Boshouwers Consumption of gasoline For the 2020 Acura RDX, the fuel economy is rated as 11L/100 km in the city and 8.6L/100 km on the highway, for a total 9.9L/100 km.The A-Spec package and larger wheels, on the other hand, result in a somewhat lower fuel economy, with 11.3L/9.1L/10.3L per 100 km (city/highway/combined) for the RDX.As is customary in winter driving, those figures were thrown off, and my final total after a week of (albeit city-heavy) travel was a disappointing 13.5L/100 km.

    • Maybe I might have done better if I had not used Sport mode, but what would have been the pleasure in that…
    • Conclusion The 2020 Acura RDX is a terrific pick in the luxury small SUV sector, and that’s even before you consider the fact that it’s priced competitively with the German heavyweights.
    • Photograph by D.Boshouwers Even though the A-Spec package adds more sporting pretensions to the model without actually injecting it with steroids, it doesn’t make a difference: the RDX is an agile, responsive athlete right out of the box.
    • It is blessed with a nervous accelerator pedal, an engine and transmission that are ready to go, a Sport mode that actually makes a difference, and a chassis that is appropriately stiff.
    • To that, you may add a sensuous purr from beneath the hood, a luxurious interior, and the absence of any severe flaws.
    • There remains the issue of fuel consumption, but if you drive a more balanced combination of city and highway driving than I do, you should be able to get better results than I did on that front.
    • Photograph by D.Boshouwers We appreciate the sleek appearance, especially when combined with the A-Spec treatment.
    • Excellent acceleration and handling Engine noise that is seductive Sport mode that lives up to its moniker We are dissatisfied with the construction’s quality.
